Gezi Park - Istanbul

This picture is refuted on Twitter as being from the 2011 marathon

was just about to post that - the twitter stuff is going wild, here's an actual one single lane.

Lots of this man is now dead. As is this man. And this one stuff going around on twitter now. I think Syria and things have sort of made it acceptable to make these crazy unsupported claims.

No one is dead that rumour was started in ironic fashion by the government side.
The Marathan picture was retweeted by a usually reliable actor who lives in Istanbul and took part in some of the rallies.

yesterday evening I was praising twitter for filling the hole of traditional media but this morning it's seems to be spreading as much false information as the truth

This is reliable at 6am their time this morning

At least 3,000 across the bridge early, met by police in Barbaros Avenue

I hope ordinary people come out more but I'm can't see it as yet, whilst Greece has been in crisis capital has flowed into Turkey massively under a heavily anti-union legal system with a fearful working-class service sector.

This is wrong though from the BBC:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-22739423

"Hundreds of demonstrators marched over the bridge connecting the Asian and European shores of Istanbul on Saturday morning to try to reach the main square."

More than hundreds.

don't want to belittle the scale of the protests but that photo is from the Istanbul marathon: http://tr.eurosport.com/atletizm/av...m-pazar-gunu-kosulacak_sto3484898/story.shtml

edit: ah, already debunked.

Young woman in a very bad way at 1:40ish mark here, twitching on the ground with a head wound from probably a teargas canister.

Embedded media from this media site is no longer available

I was there last night, in the park. If I wasn't a useless foreigner with asthma, I would be there again tonight.

Me too. At least the bıt about beıng a useless foreıgner wıth asthma and thus not beıng there tonıght.

There's supposed to be a rally ın Kadıkoy at 4pm thıs afternoon, by the Iskele, I'm goıng to that. You?

Looks like police have withdrawn , changes dynamic.

Guy on al J now saying they chased police off the streets, got lots of their equipment etc.

Lots of Galatasaray flags.

Thanks. I'm fine. I'm on the Asian side with my friend and her baby. As much as I've been wanting to go and get in the middle, I'm better off here. Even here, in a very wealthy neighbourhood, people are out on the streets, calling for the end of the PM, forcing businesses run by Islamists/government supporters to close, making their voices heard.

:( be careful

Don't worry I'm staying here for the night. I don't think I'd even be able to get home, as I'd have to pass through besikas, which is being heavily gassed now. All we can hear are car horns.
