Lord Camomile

Yipchaa!
Schedule for all GBR&NI athletes/teams on the Olympics pages (for BST just subtract 8 from the times listed on the page, or use this handy little tool).

First medal of the 2020 games, bronze won by Chelsea Giles in the women's judo.

Also due another martial arts medal as Bradly Sinden competes in the men's taekwondo final, so guaranteed at least silver. Think that final should be around 1:45pm today.

Not all good news, though, as double-Olympic champion and current world #1 Jade Johnson was beaten in a shock first round defeat. Still has a chance for bronze through the repechage, but apparently she'd previously said "anything but gold will be a failure".

I mean, double-gold winner, no shame, but sounds utterly gutted in the interview.

Speaking of double-gold winners, Andy Murray has withdrawn from the singles owing to a thigh strain, which doesn't rule him out completely but was advised not to compete in singles and doubles, and has decided to focus on the doubles, where he and Joe Salisbury defeated the second seeds in the first round

Adam Peaty. That man's a beast!!

So, so pleased he won again. Just watched it on repeat and he really dominated the race.

Is he the one with the moustache I saw in the heats? I was hoping he would win because everyone else seems to shave their whole body to gain a bit of speed.

Yes it is. Though he did shave it off for the semi final/final :D

He's been dominant in the 100m breaststroke for years, unbeaten for 7 years I think, despite some really strong competitors.

He's a really great champion.

Tom Daley and Matty Lee have just taken the lead in the diving, over "hot favourites" China (who, far as I remember, have always been pissing good at diving).

Meanwhile, Lauren Williams in the taekwondo QFs, and Tom Pidcock is fighting in the top 4 of the mountain bike cross-country.

Too much to keep track of!

Get in!!

Ruth Gbagby, Williams' Ivorian opponent, did well to come back and put the pressure on after Williams ran away with the opening round, but Williams managed to see it out and reach the final (around 1:30pm, according to Dan Walker).

What a Monday morning!

Watching the gymnastics and I think it's the first time I've ever seen a Swiss roll at the Olympics.

Jaaaaaaaysis, taekwondo really changes so fast! Williams was 6 points up with 30 seconds to go, it was 21-21 with 8 seconds to go, but Williams ended up losing by 3.

No idea how it was as a taekwondo bout, but very tight, back and forth final!

OMG, fucking taekwondo! Walkden loses the SF in literally the last second, 2 points up, kicked on the head, loses by a point  :(

E2A: fuck, apologies to anyone watching on BBC, hadn't realised Eurosport were ahead of them

I was following it on the BBC app. Really feel for her, poor thing.

I literally just happened to switch on the TV with about 30-60 seconds left of the third round!

I think that's 3 or 4 matches GBR competitors have lost in the final seconds.

Just watched it again, obviously much easier to say from here, but the decision to engage in those last few seconds rather than just run away... ach, woulda, shoulda, coulda :(

Had to remember who he was, but I recall an ugly hate mail campaign against him a while back after he got selected in someone else’s place.
Ohhhh, hang on, I feel like I vaguely remember that, now. There was a lot of pressure on him to do well after that, right?

Seems a very assured pundit, and a good egg as well.

Yeah, I know this isn't really how things work, but slightly hard matching his very softly spoken and calm manner with the fact his sport of choice involves kicking your opponent in the head on a regular basis :D

My martial arts doing mate says Taekwondo is probably the least effective one for use in an actual fight but he tends to say stuff like that to be controversial :hmm:
