Foldable phones are coming

I've got the flip precisely because I don't want the massive size that all the candy bar phones are getting to. I want a small phone that I can fit in my pocket and reach all of the screen relative easily with one hand.

It is expensive but I am very happy with it.

Same. I bought my first one 2 years ago and can't see me ever going back.

Took my Flip into the Samsung shop on Tuesday as there was deterioration on the fold. Was charged a ridiculous amount for them to take it in for a screen repair, but got a call today from them saying they have finished the repair and are refunding the cost as 'a goodwill gesture'

I wonder whether that is they have looked at the usage and the time and date of the manufacture and realised it was their bad. I think likely.

Either way I am glad I'm not paying it.

Using my old candy bar handset and keep trying to fold it.

What's your thoughts on the Flip?

I really like it. I'm back on my old handset and the difference in responsiveness and speed is noticeable.

I got it in Dec 21
Should last more than 18months, my dads iphone is 14 years old still runs and looks great. Well, runs what it can run...

I’ve not seen a foldable phone in the wild that didn’t have a crusty looking dust filled fold in the middle of the screen

I saw one last weekend, was like witchcraft, once opened you couldn’t see the fold, was just sold glass, made a regular size phone in to a tablet, for maximum porn, I guess.

Yeah but what is it about being able to fold your phone in half, make it smaller, that has convinced you that you’ve found your forever phone?

I've got it back and am so happy.

I like the fact I can put it in my front or back pocket with out it sticking up. I like the fact that when folded it feels solid and safe and I don't worry about screen scratches in my bag.

I also like the snap when closing it.

Im in the small is beautiful camp for phones too, although larger screen means no glasses required. So I look forward to your continuing product assessment, thanks.

I like the fact I can hold it my hand and its basically hidden.

And also, since I've got it back I am just so impressed with how speedy and what a good phone it is.

It's like I've got a new one cos I had to reset it to give it to them.

I missed my Bixby modes for the week I didn't have it. At 9pm it goes on silent, screen dims, alarm is set and in the morning sound goes on and screen brightens 10 mind after alarm is stopped.

After me fucking up my old screen (don't ask) and then Samsung sending me lots of offers that meant I could get it half price, I got the new flip 6.

It is super quick. And the big screen on the cover is cool. Made it hard for me to find a case that worked as I like to have a ring / something to have my fingers in for security and on my old flip it was on the top so it could still sit flat on a table.

Not possible with the screen being on top but I found one with a band that works.

I can reply to texts and WhatsApp without opening the phone now. Although it's slightly annoying that the notifications are the same size as on the tiny cover window and I'm basically blind. So seeing them properly is hard for me.

ETA, battery is amazing too. Obviously it will fade but at the moment a good 24 hours with me doing all my normal stuff.

I thought these were just a gimmick when they returned but they actually look really good having seen one.

Any recommendations for a second hand one upgradable to Android 14, preferably not a Samsung?

I found out the price of a folding phone screen replacement and completely balked at the idea

Huawei Triple Fold looks good, but not really interested in folding phones myself

I'd definitely be into something like that if Apple came out with one. It would inevitably be £££s - but a phone that could be used one handed and then folded out into something the size of an iPad? Yes please.

One of the foremen on a building site I'm working on has a folding phone and it's impressively useful. He can get on the shared drive and call up drawings at a useful size, mark them up and circulate to his team. Stuff you'd need a tablet/laptop for, or find far too fiddly on a regular phone. I can see the appeal. Still much too unreliable (and pricey!) for my tastes tho.
