Finland / Suomi ...anyone been?

I can recommend this place: Hotel Harriniva - Accommodation, huskies, snowmobiles and delicious food as I stayed there ten years ago, booked via Adventure Holidays & Tailor Made Trips | Discover the World

4 nights full board for 2 people including flights uk > helsinki > Kittila was £1,500 then, sure to be much more now. We did daily activities like dog sledding, snowmobile safari, northern lights night walk, etc. Was a really different kind of holiday and quite exhilarating, but physically tough too, so I hope you’re fit. The air that far north is something else. The cleanest you’ll ever breathe and despite the low temp, the low humidity makes it bearable and refreshing rather than chilling.

From the hotel Harriviva we could easily walk to a river crossing and straight across into Sweden and back, which is the first time I’ve made a border crossing without seeing anyone else. Of the activities, the dog sledding was the most memorable. The frenzy of excitement those huskies build themselves into before being allowed to run is something which cannot fail to move you. Sheer nervous energy!

Like anyone else whose only been once, I can recommend the place I stayed but have no idea how much better or worse it might be compared to any alternatives!

Well that outer suit I’m wearing in the top pic is an all-in-one, worn over a base layer, mid layer, fleece, jeans, and down jacket, which is why it’s so flattering! The idea is that it stops you dying if you go through the ice for long enough for someone to pull you out.

Dressed like that it doesn’t make much difference whether it’s -10 or -40.

Crikey...there was no mention of potential to fall through ice in 98.

You definitely look very warm 😀

If I were to take a trip over there would the tour organisers lend me clothes, is there someone to rent them from or would I need to buy lots of expensive high end clothing for a single trip?
Spymaster pm sent, cheers

You'll need decent footwear for snow and ice (normal walking boots/shoes) for around town anyway, and a good jacket and jumpers. All of the specialist stuff like that oversuit/gloves/snowboots/helmet etc., is supplied by the tour firms.
