Festivals now feel like a cross between a spa and a gastropub...

It's possible, but nowhere near as easy as it once was, especially if you want to keep ticket prices at a reasonable level.
It helps when festivals don't book the same 'big name' acts who are playing every single similar festival in the UK. Beautiful Days manages to be cleaner and more family friendly than even the biggest festivals and still have a reasonable line up. But then I prefer festivals that are all about the people and not an endless parade of superstars.

Just remembered that the other week I ran into someone who'd recently been working a few shifts at "The Big Feastival":
Jamie Oliver and Alex James present The Big Feastival, a unique weekend celebration of music, food and fun for all the family, set on Alex's idyllic Cotswolds farm. Enjoy music from top acts, tuck into top chef demos in the Big Kitchen and have your fill from The Menu, featuring the cream of the UK's street food crop.
They said that as while they were working as a litterpicker a dad actually walked past with his kid and went "and remember, that's why you want to stay in school" while gesturing at them.
