Favorite Hip-Hop artist?

DotCommunist

So many particulars. So many questions.
I'm off to see Snoop at the end of the month, and he has always been one of my favorites, even though his recent stuff has been far inferior to his early genius.
I also have a soft spot for Nas, Dre and Public Enemy.

For something a little less 'gangsta' I like De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest.

Also, not strictly Rap, but Nate Dogg did a very good album 'Ghetto Preacher which was largely actual singing to a hip-hop beat.

doggystyle is probably my favourite hiphop album... not sur eif i could say who my favourite rapper is though.

krs-1?

<edit - probably rakim actually>

Either Jurassic 5, cypress hill or the coup.

All this modern crap makes me want to shoot people. The people who make it that is...

Have you heard all modern hip hop, then?

:D

Jurassic 5's last album was complete toss. They should be shot for the Dave Matthews track alone.

Same here.

Looking forward to seeing him again at ATP :D

I'm ashamed that I haven't managed to catch one of his shows yet, and he seems to play Bristol 2-3 times a year

ETA Is that the ATP in Minehead? Might have to make the effort then

My favorite artist is nas. Fucking love him drops knowlege over so many classic beats. Although he has put out a couple of really shit albums.

Think my top 10 goes something like this.

1. nas
2. 2pac
3. Eminem
4. Busta Rhymes
5. Mthod man
6. B real/cypress hill
7. Immortal technique
8.DMX
9. Big pun

Fuck can't decide 10th but thats about right i think. And yeah i think i've only listend to the last j5 album twice.

edit: dotcommie what did you reckon to blue carpet treatment? I thought i was a return to form after the shite last two albums(or three) hes put out.

Its hard to say overall,
so many artists over a long time.

These days all I listen to is Devin the Dude.
I really like his laid back soul sound.

Quite possibly the best live hip-hop I've ever seen. MCs and scratches at the same time. Ridiculously tight flow. Plugs a theramin into the decks ...!

Sure is. He's playing the one in May. Shaping up to be a pretty good line-up :D
