Or just young poseurs trying to do the whole Deep South / meth-mouth / heroin chic thing with added mild paedophilia references to enrage the Daily Mail- just like proper bands used to do in the good old days(and Alabama 3 have been doing for many years)?
I saw them with low expectations at Editor's excellent save Brixton night last year and was very impressed with the energy they projected. Evocative of J.A.M.C. Psychocandy era (IMHO).
It's an honest question by the way - won't give money to racists.

I remember they exhibited some awful behaviour on their facebook - some of it mentioned in this thread.

They definitely said something racially offensive on facebook - I saw it. The whole band - I don't know them.

If it was on FB once then it's definitely OK to keep on labelling the entire band as racists forever. No need to listen to the opinions of people who actually know them, or investigate the matter further. No sir!
If someone said something racist using their account and they did not denounce them or issue an apology then I have no need to question it further - its not like a band is an individual - or even someone I know, the page that represents them used racist language and that is enough for me. Others, will have their own level of botheredness.

The lead singer said loudly in a pub that "niggers can't read" and got kicked out as a result IIRC. Supposedly there was some ingenious context which people said made it all okay but which Im still nonethewiser to, despite it being discussed for pages and pages on that there thread

is noone calling up the band name of the support act? i mean i love that band but every so often i see their band name and think " how did they manage that without 500 pages on a bulletin board"? guess they arrived too early
Probably non-specific because I don't remember the details. I do remember that they were up to no good though.

Can you actually recall this 'racist language' they supposedly published on their own FB page and refused to apologise for, or will you continue to motor along with your vaguely remembered 'something on FB' story?
I'm all for shouting down racists when I find them, but I usually find its best to have some idea of the actual story first, especially when it's dredged up from three years ago. If they are indeed all 'racists' as you have claimed, there must be tons of more recent incidents to choose from. So what have you got?

If you're going to publicly accuse an entire band of being racists it's generally seen as prudent to have a little more than a vaguely recalled FB post to back it up.

You called all of the band 'racist,' remember? So your evidence for this claim is?
Oh and the reason I care is that when people start sloppily accusing others of being racist based on no facts bit on something they vaguely remember seeing on FB, it sets rather a bad precedent, and sometimes leads to the real racists being left off the hook.
But you carry on if that's the way you like to do things.
I don't even know of the band consists of one person or a hundred. I will say that I question the beliefs of anyone that associates with someone else of questionable beliefs.

But rather than being mortified that the "joke" was taken the wrong way the impression i got was the he went on being deliberately offensive,yeah, in a rock and roll way. And got barred.I suppose their excuse is rock and roll?
Is he a racist? I can see the grey area. Not a good look though. And the staff at the pub unanimously rounded on him and "wanted to kick his head in" as one staff member put it. Its all tehre to read in the thread, not worth rehashing the details.
Which is a fair thing to say. One of them said something racist, and his intentions for doing so remain murky.

I was referring to the notion of mild paedophilla... rock and roll as in 'we're edgey' and it's 'not our fault young groupies love us' kind of way. Not making excuses for them myself mind because it does all sound murky indeed.

What are all these 'deplorable actions' you speak of? Or are you just running with whatever 'outrageous' crap you've half remembered posted up by someone or another somewhere or another, a la Daily Mail?
They're a rock and roll band. They get trashed. They say stupid things from time to time, most of which I doubt they can remember. Shit happens. It's what bands have done for ever and it's only a problem if they actually come out with actual racist statements or manifestos that are clearly backed by all the band, imo.
I know them fairly well, and - again - I've never heard a racist sentiment. Quite the reverse, in fact.

For context I said "mild paedophilia references". What I should have said is "mild references to paedophilia" to avoid misunderstanding: the words were all mine and I would hate for them to become a basis for accusing a relatively unknown band as being P.I.E supporters.
I suspect that there is an element of trying to upset the squares in the furore around this band and their antics / pronouncements - after all it worked splendidly for McLaren and the Sex Pistols.
I'm still going to see them but will keep my Racism / Paedo detectors set to high and will report back if anything untoward is noticed.
Also Wikipedia says "The Black Lips are noted for provocative theatrics – including vomiting (Cole's medical condition), urination, nudity, electric R.C. car races, fireworks, a chicken, flaming guitars and other un-predictable antics. "
