wot , 2 days b4 a match and no thread ? OK , what public transport is available from Farnborough station to the ground ?

You're probably looking at a cab from the station, otherwise it's around a 20 min walk / just over 1 mile along flat residential streets. There are two walking routes from the station: right out of station, then right again and keep going, or left out of station then, left, left again, and right into Cherrywood Road at the roundabout. There are four direct trains an hour from Waterloo to Farnborough; the fastest leave at 09 & 39 past the hour, others at 12 & 42 past. They don't all call at Clapham Junction, so check National Rail Enquiries for specfic journeys.

The ground is in Cherrywood Road, just north of arrow on linked map:

Location Map.

Main Station is just off southern edge of map, North station just off eastern edge.

Prince of Wales, just around the corner from Farnborough North, has consistently been the best pub in Farnborough for real ale for many years. (Can't guarantee it serves berries & lime or mainstream lagers though.) Anyone wanting to go stright there would be best off going from Waterloo/Clapham Jn, changing at Guildford, where there is an hourly service to Farnborough North (the Reading train) departing at 09 past the hour, journey time 17 mins.

This is 'official' Non-League Day, isn't it? Doesn't seem like they're doing much to try to get extra fans in.

No they're not! As I think Griff has pointed out they've added the NLD logo to their posters and that's about it. £12 to get in as well. Fuckers.

OK. I'm feeling the hate for these air show fuckers. The moral victory is already ours.

They're a massive financial mess aren't they? I don't know the details but their first few games were postponed because it wasn't clear they'd be able to complete the season.

So to be fair to them it puts them in a difficult position regarding non-league day. They probably can't afford to give up revenue especially as now Maidstone have gone we're likely to bring more away fans than anyone else will this season. And dropping prices/pay what you want type deals are pretty risky wrt overall revenue.

That's the charitable version anyway.;)

Nope they're still fuckers!

£8 for concessions/students, bit pricey.

You would think that with a financial crisis you would charge less and provide offers for students or concessions to gather more people into the stands, instead of keeping prices the same really. Its not gonna help them, morally or financially really.

This will be hit and miss for me, depending whether I can get there and back in time for my brothers flat warming.

I don't think that's the reality for most clubs at lower levels tbh (ie pretty much anyone who's not us!). I think for a lot of teams if you drop the prices you just get the same people turning up (100-200 people for most teams in our league) and paying less.

(Obviously I'll still be grumbling at paying the extra two quid mind.)

I'm not so sure. You're far more likely to be able to persuade students along to a game if the entrance fee is £4 - and once they're in the ground there's ample opportunies for them to spand at the tea bar/bar/merch stall etc. £8 is taking the piss. Fuck 'em.

The student prices was one of the major things for me to start following the Hamlet (and the sexy football obviously), after Fulham getting relegated and still wanting me to pay 30 odd pounds for games against Huddersfield, Blackpool and Bournemouth (no disrespect to any of the clubs mentioned!)

Although we do get branded as a "hipster" club and we aren't our cheap concessions are easily a contributing factors to some of our larger gates. Double the price for a away match on NLD just seems rather bollocks. Are the club doing anything at all for the event?

To put it succinctly Farnborough owe around £1.2m to a plethora of creditors which must be repaid in full by end of this season or they will be thrown out of the Ryman League. Most of team this season seems to be long term loans from the likes of Reading and Cheltenham though I'm not sure of the rulings on how many can be played at any one time. Despite all the problems Cherrywood Road seems to have grown a massive seated stand at one end. Oh for those who can't shake the weed, you can only smoke in the four corners of the ground.

Additionally, this is (at least) the second time Farnborough, or a Farnborough-based club (the current entity is a phoenix club) have been in the shit financially thanks to flinging money about in a bid for regular Conference National/ League 2 football. I have literally no sympathy, and I don't even think we should be playing them this weekend as they should have been binned for failing to fulfill fixtures.

Farnborough have relented and will now be organising a special collection in aid of the Spencer Day/Trethewey Endowment Fund. Fans attending the game are asked to bring any used fivers they may have lying around at home and donate them. These will then be put to provide much needed wadding for empty wallets all over the boardroom area.

Hearing strong rumours that corruption and/ or ineptitude are as rife in non-league football as in the Premiership. Vile if true.

I suggest use local pubs, bring your own food, don't buy raffle tickets etc., basically don't give them a penny other than ground admission plus (if you really want one) programme. That's always my stance with whichever minority of clubs charge over the odds for the division.

My father attended the 1952 Farnborough Air Show, when there were fatalities after a De Havilland Vampire broke up in mid air and its engines crashed into the crowd like bombs. Fortunately my Dad was unscathed otherwise I wouldn't be typing this now!

Anybody know any decent pubs between the main Farnborough Station and the ground?
Your best bet is the Thatched Cottage in Prospect Road, just north of the junction with West Heath Road. It used to be in the Good Beer Guide, but has been up and down in recent times, but one of our supporters who lives in the area tells me it's reasonable these days.

Farnborough had a crowd of just 91 on Monday.
There'll be plenty more tomorrrow but a large part of their fanbase appear to have given up altogether having witnessed a total shambles for the last few years. They've been a complete twat magnet for owners in recent times and I honestly don't think the club deserves a place in our division. I do have sympathy for their fans though.
