Hornchurch flying high in the Isthmian Premier division can't be under estimated.
And Hamlet's tendency to hideously underperform can never be underestimated either!Hornchurch flying high in the Isthmian Premier division can't be under estimated.
Upminster Bridge on the District Line is marginally closer but still walkable from Upminster, which you can get to in about 15 minutes from West Ham on the C2C service.Any travel tips? Seem to remember it's between tube stations.
I take it there's still a pesky running track in the way of the pitch.
Luckily, as I've got the Over 60's Oystercard, I can pick up the C2C from West Ham at no extra cost.I always go to Upminster Bridge station on the District Line, which is the closest. If you travel from an Overground station, avoiding Zone 1, and switch to the Underground at either Canada Water or Whitechapel and touch your Oystercard on the pink validator on the platform you should only be charged £1.50 each way. This cheap fare doesn't seem to apply if you start your journey from stations managed by other operators who are not part of TFL such as Southern or South Eastern.

I'll hopefully be taking in the Upminster Taproom in the delightfully named Sunnyside Gardens, which is slightly closer to Upminster Station. Not been there before but it has good reports. If the match had been played a week later, there's a new one opening soon in Hornchurch itself - The Hop Inn, in North Street but this doesn't open until the following weekend!
It's crazy. Travelling to home games from Bermondsey Underground station, changing at Canada Water and using the pink validator, it's £1.50 to Denmark Hill on the Overground. If I subsequently change at Peckham Rye and touch out at East Dulwich it's £2.10. (If I walk to South Bermondsey and go directly to East Dulwich on Southern it's free, because both stations are ungated and there are never any ticket inspectors on Southern metro services.)These travel rules are a nightmare! As both stations are in Zone 6 my 1-day senior travelcard should do the trick. Thanks for the info about the Upminster Taproom!

Yes. I only discovered this recently when a friend who works on the railways explained it to me. I couldn't understand why I was being charged more than £1.50 for some journeys between the same zones. There may still be glitches or anomalies where TFL managed services (i.e. Tube/Overground/TFL Rail) call at stations managed by other operators. I'm not sure whether Upminster is managed by TFL or c2c for example. Also there's no pink card validator at West Ham that I'm aware of, so I can't be certain I'll get a £1.50 fare for travelling from Bermondsey on the Jubilee Line and changing there even though it's my quickest and most obvious route.Isn't this fare on the Tube, DLR and Overground only, so as long as you travel on a route where you could theoretically have done this (starting at Sydenham which the Overground calls at, for example), you're ok, but if you start at Gipsy Hill (where you could only get a Southern train) you're not. So, basically what you said already
Anyone know why Dover v King's Lynn has gone to ET and pens? Thought it was always a replay in the FA Trophy.
(Yusuff not in the Dover squad btw and Dipo didn't feature for Welling today either)
