Euro 6 4x4

telbert

Do you like sponge?
Im looking for a new car atm and i now need something mid sized with a high ground clearance, 4/AWD capability and a diesel auto. Also as i live in greater london its gonna need to be euro 6 to avoid the ULEZ charges. Max budget is 15k but the cheaper the better. Can someone point me in the right direction to start please?
Ta.

How much ground clearance do you need exactly? A typical compact SUV amount?
Yeah, the car i have now has only 120 mm so ideally 200 plus but anything in between really. Ive looked online at the XC60, Freelander 2 ( cant find a euro 6, not sure if they exist) . I had a look at a XC70 but wasnt impressed .

OK I'm gonna suggest Mazda CX-5 because their clever diesel engines were already Euro 6 compliant well before Euro 6 was anywhere near. So you could get one of the oldest ones from 2012 and still tick that box. There aren't a gazillion CX-5s around but this fact should give you a decent range to choose from well inside your budget.

This looks surprisingly good. Can you tell me anything i should be looking out for to avoid/ jump at please?

I've looked into them but haven't ever owned one yet. They're typically very reliable. I'm not aware of any specifics apart from a camshaft issue on pre-2014s for VINs in a certain range which you can look up.

Thanks, im scouring t'internet now.

Does the Skoda Octavia Scout do the business on ground clearance?

Offensively reliable, practical, and fuel efficient on motorway/fast road runs....

Ive had a CX3 sportnav for 3 or 4 years now. Good build quality, comfortable, better than many of its rivals but boot/luggage space is very poor, especially if you do what I did and get a full size spare wheel.
Ps the tyres are expensive and can take a while to get hold of.

I lust after a volvo xc40 (after having driven the xc90 for work)..... but I don't need to replace my car, unless they extend the ULEZ out to the m25, in which case I suspect I may semi buy/semi inherit my dad's CRV as he wants a new car

My current leased XC40 is the best car I’ve ever had, but I won’t be replacing it with another next year because the pricing/spec is now fubared compared to 2019 when I ordered.

Will probably go for the new Qashqai which ticks all the boxes kit-wise, is supposedly just as comfortable/quiet and is also cheaper, easier to get hold of being made in the UK, and isn’t Chinese.

My heads been turned by the VW Tiguan now, Again, ULEZ compliant & 4wd. Any info on this please?

Yes - go for the Skoda Kodiak. It's the same (ish) car with pretty much the same engines. It's a bit less polished than the VW, marginally, but it's more practical, and cheaper.

Don't bother with the 1.5 engines, they're pretty wheezy for anything other than driving around town with no weight in the car. Overtaking on a windy A road with 4 adults and a boot full of holiday luggage would be unpleasant...
