Euro 2016 Violence thread (to keep the footie threads on footie)

Do you still think it's the English fans fault?

Lets relativize this. We are talking about extreme violence enacted by organized russian fascists against innocent fans. There is a real possibility it will go off tonite in Lille and send everything tits up, yet here we have agroup of trolls having a go at a collective they hate. Football fans, as if tossing coins for kids to chase was in some way comparable.

Is that what this thread is about?
It's about all football related violence and that takes many forms, from throwing furniture around like drunken demented chair-distributors to treating poor children as objects of derision and targets for coins.

How come the police have no control over this?

That drunk welsh guy someone posted in here before totally 'called it'. When the Russians get back from the game it will be trouble, amazingly enough, the Russians turn up and there is trouble

England fans aren't innocent, but since there are so many police with anti riot equipment, how did they let the two sets of fans meet again? They will have been watching the English and Welsh drinking all day, and they obviously know that the English and Russian fans hate each other's guts, why are they letting them get drunk in the same not that big town?
Russian guys don't even look like they drink, they just do pull ups in their hotel rooms and Nazi salutes with heavy bags attached to their arms

all this thread posturing and nitpickery goading aside, its a fucking appalling situation when people cant even go to a fucking tournament without aggro. England and Russia should be booted out.

England fans haven't been a problem in Europe for years. The England team and the big clubs play in Europe a lot and there is rarely any trouble.

just the past week then

The reality is that England fans only started "looking for it" yesterday in Lille, after days and days of unprovoked assaults, Which is for me understandable considering the ferocity of the attacks and the blatant incompetence of the police.

What is your opinion on the fascist militia that has run rampage in Marseille?

which one?

One think i don't get, Russia are under a suspended disqualification, yet they get away with letting off flares in the stadium?

So are Uefa saying that flares are alllowed now? Or are they as corrupt and gutless as Fifa ?

your narrative seems somewhat selective

But of course you wouldn't lower yourself to actually mentioning a time this century when England fans were a massive problem for the police before the debacle in Marseille
I don't follow football that closely anymore, but I haven't heard of any major incidents with groups of England fans since France 98. I was pretty upset watching the chaos in Marseille and it also upset me that so many people were so quick to attack the England fans with no evidence. Their culture may seem strange to you, but it seems that they are being demonized because of their 'otherness'

Most of England's nutters are banged up / prevented from travelling, certainly the top boys ( to use a shit phrase ) aren't out there. Russia etc have no such measures in place, throw in the fact that the the Union Jack, St Georges cross is like a red rag to a bull I suspect that most of the agression is not coming from English fans, and think the previous behaviour in the 80's / 90's has tainted them forever.

It is the Polish fans that are the real scary bastards, be interesting to see how that fixture pans out tonight.

Whatever it is all a bit shit

'Otherness' meaning the songs they still sing? No surrender to the IRA? Ten German bombers?

If things are different in the past week to how it has been for years it would surely suggest something has changed, different factors are involved?

The changes may well be internal as well as external, and I'm not saying all those involved are poor innocent victims, simply that it's not just the England fans who are a problem in isolation.

clearly

Yes. It's stupid and offensive and I don't approve, but that doesn't justify violenice against them by thugs or the police.

There are a tiny minority of extremists which the majority of sensible fans will condemn, but a lot of people are very quick to blame all of them for things that have nothing to do with them

Seems to be a different atmosphere going down with the England fans in France compared to what I saw in Brazil which seemed to mostly be disenfranchised white van men who'd shelled out loads to watch Engurland crash out of the group stages.

you must have missed e.g. euro 2000 and euro 2004.

There many truly innocent people who are caught up in this appalling macho shit through no fault of their own. Too much wheedling and evasive sidestepping in this here thread - this isn't Spain in '36, this is not some noble anti fascist campaign. its a minority of cunts on either side acting like.. well, cunts.
