England vs USA

Obnoxiousness

England vs USA

Saturday, 12th June 2010, kick off 7:30pm in Rustenburg.

Normally I'd be quite confident about England wiping the floor with the Americans, but they've been improving somewhat. :hmm:

Although I think Lennon will be a nightmare for their sluggish defenders and they will struggle to defend against Ashely Cole and Glen Johnson.

But they have Donovan. :(

Perfect day time for a World Cup opener too (not whole WC obv') but a Sat eve' after a long hot day - BBQ, Beers, Fuutball = :)

Should be a proper good game.

The USA are better than most people like to admit.

Aye, already mentioned this in the other thread, but i can see dempsey troubling a few of our defenders...they seem well organised too, not a one man team or anything.

is that an intensional misspelling as every winger in existence manages to ghost past him?

I reckon this game will be a scrappy 2-1 victory without ever looking in doubt and everyone will be saying we are shit afterwards.

Recently they've been playing about as well/badly as England. They played in S Africa last season in that tournament and managed to beat Spain - also led Brazil 2-0 in the final before losing - so they shouldn't be underestimated. A draw wouldn't be a bad result for either side.

I'm looking forward to watching it at the Hammersmith Apollo in megascreen HD!

They are a decent side, your Yanks, but I reckon they'll actually be right up our street and we'll muller them - much better than starting against either Algeria or Slovenia.

confederations cup doesn't count! Practically a friendly tourney.
The final was actually a really good game and you could tell both sides wanted to win. Brazil don't really get to play 'friendly' games because every country wants their scalp - especialy in a final. USA wanted to win that tourny and Brazil didn't want the shame of losing to them.

Spectre at right back , Johnson and Lennon down the right , have faith :D:D

Ah, that is encouraging. :)

The U.S. struggled in the back last week in a 4-2 loss to the Czech Republic and a 2-1 victory over Turkey, and several players have said the team must improve its defense as a whole.

"We'll be working in training as a unit. We'll be watching video of the games to see where we went wrong, whether it be positionally or individually," Spector said Wednesday before the team's second training session in South Africa.

Heskey will probably get a hat-trick then. :p

Yes the USA shouldn't be underestimated. In the last World Cup they didn't get out of a tough group, but drew with the eventual winners.

I'm sure Capello will not take them lightly, and has already highlighted their weaknesses to his squad.

I personally think that the game will be won in the second half. Even if the USA lead at the break, England have developed a talent for good second half performances under Capello.

Steven Gerrard on the left drifts over to the right exposing Ashley Cole.

But I seem to remember Joe Cole being a great left winger for England before.

James

Johnson | Ferdinand | Terry | Cole

Barry

Lennon | Lampard | Gerrard | Wright-Philips or Joe Cole

Rooney

This sort of formation would cause the some chaos for the USA defenders, I think. SWP for speed, or maybe Joe Cole?

Barry won't be fit. It's the thus far ill-starred partnership of Gerrard and Lampard.

Has to now be Crouch with Rooney up front.

USA are the new Germany, organised, super fit with stamina. They grind the opposition down.

We're (possibly) fucked....

England 2-1 US of A

Crouchie to score in the last 5 minutes to end Andy Townsends constant droaning on about us being disjointed

All that matters in tournament football is to never lose your first game.

1-1 draw
