England 23 Man Squad

To be fair, the mind does crazy shit and I can't imagine it was a simple case of him missing Britain's Got Talent. It's a real shame but if he doesn't feel up to it and his football would suffer because of it then there's not a great deal you can do.

He can't expect much of an international career in future, then.

Looking at the quotes I think that's something he's well aware of :(

'Everyone wants to be a part of England, to come away and play, but I have always found it really hard, even when I was teenager, being away from home,' said the Kirkby-born 25-year-old.

'I have always struggled with it, that's quite tough, but the more time you spend around the lads, the more you begin to feel part of everything.

'They are all good lads, everyone is friendly and gets on with each other. There's no case of feeling out the picture.'

'It takes time to settle in fully but the lads make it easier for you. There is a good spirit and that is a real help.'

Baines admitted only his second full England cap - the first coming against Egypt in March - was something of a trial.

'Did I enjoy the evening? Not really, no. It was hard work but we won,' he added. 'It would be a dream come true to make the 23. The majority of places for the other lads are probably cemented but it's far from the case for me and a few others.

'We are still fighting, trying to get there, but I'd have liked to have done better against Mexico.'

it affects all kinds of sportsman too. see marcus trescothick, or for a slightly different situation, dennis bergkamp who didn't play european away games due to his fear of flying.

I thought of that, but he often drove didn't he? Unfortunately in Baines' case there isn't such an option, but you do hope he finds a way to cope :)

In the meantime, BRING ON THE YANKS  :D

USA looked quite dangerous in their friendlies, don't think we'll walk all over them by any means.

Haven't seen them in the friendlies but I'm not expecting an easy ride either. 1-1?

They beat turkey 2-1 after going 1-0 down, looked good v the czechs too despite losing 4-2 in the end.

It could easily be a 1-1 draw v them. Dempsey's one to watch out for.

Agree with all of this. I won't be too unhappy with a draw against the USA. I think we'll beat Algeria and Slovenia reasonably comfortably.

Super, super Emile, super, super Emile, super, super Emile, super Emile Heskey

Watch him be a contender for MotM in at least two games - you heard it here first.

Lennon boots it at Heskey and then Heskey knocks it down to Rooney, who boots it straight at the goal keeper and then Cole or Gerrard scores on the rebound.

A pretty fool proof plan. :D

Heard on the radio a stat that said we win more games when heskey is in the side than when he's not, can't remember the exact stat now but there was quite a difference between the two.

I think Heskey grinds down defenders. He's like a defender worrier. Knackers them out with his strong physical play and when they're almost dead on their legs........ enter Defoe.

They were going to use Heskey as a supporting false leg for Beckham.
But they decided that the Americans will be more confused by Heskey on his own, as they'll assume he is Lenny Henry

IMO: Cappello has it right... just about the right amount of clubmates in key positions and a breadth of experience in other areas... Heskey, Crouch n Defoe are used to each other etc... all eyes on Rooney, and Heskey or A N other slips in with a goal..

But its all on the day and who wants to win more innit...

If I was an English supporter I would be happy enough with the squad..

I must admit, as much it pains me to admit it, you are looking good, Im backing youse....
;)

Well exactly. Anyone who knows football knows we're a much better team when Heskey plays.

There's a reason he's always been first choice for Capello.

heskey is shit.

At scoring, yeah. At holding the ball up, drawing defenders in and setting up chance after chance for his strike partner, no. In fact, he's exceptionally good at it. This is why people who know far more about football than you or I keep playing him.
