I'm a little surprised SWP has got in ahead of Walcott, but apart from that it's pretty much as I expected.

1606: Theo Walcott says he was "very disappointed" to miss out on a place in England's World Cup squad and added: "I would like to wish the team the best of luck and hope they have a really successful tournament." What a brilliant reaction, bless him.

WTF happened to the England squad? I'm sure it was looking so promising 5 years ago. Now we're discussing whether Dawson, Huddlestone, Parker, Baines, Johnson, Walcott and Bent are the players to win us the world cup.

Er, no .... even if they'd been in the squad they would have been fringe players .... most would only have got a game if there had been injuries or if we won the first two group games and had already won the group and Capello decided to rest the first-choice players.

Thank fuck we actually have a good manager for a change, because the squad is depressing as hell.

I disagree. I think that there is strength in depth and players who are able to play different roles within the squad.

I still think we'll do well to get to the semi-finals, though. :(

Your squad players need to be good enough to win you the world cup, if they are called upon. Because some of them will definitely be called upon. If they aren't good enough then you're screwed. You're going to be forced to rely on the same 11 players for 7 games in a few weeks and God help you if you get a few yellow cards. If you can't justify a place in the team then you have no business being there.

It does piss me off that so many England fans seem to only have 2 default settings:

1) England are the best and will win world cup
2) England are shit, have the worst squad and no world class players

This is a decent England team who played very well in qualifying, I think we're capable of beating anyone on our day with the exception of Brazil and Spain. If both Brazil and Spain have a good world cup then theres not much that can be done, there's no shame in losing to either of those teams.

Bugger.. thats 3 villa players to potentially miss penalty's this summer then.

hmm odds of heskey being the leading scorer??...shit can't put money on it.. the tooth fairy just got a gang of flying pigs to nick my wallet

Some interesting honesty from Alan Shearer:
What are our prospects? We've got a decent chance. Any team who wins this World Cup will need a bit of luck - England will need a little bit more. But if decisions go our way, and we keep our main XI fit, then we will have a decent chance."

This essentially, with the addition that the increase in a more tactical (dull) style has shown us in recent years that the flair giants of Brazil and Spain have and can be defeated by a Greece or Inter-esque style of play.

Well, a man can dream...

Can't argue with any of that, though SWP for Alan Johnson might have been a close call.

To think Capello has any regard for the Sun is hilarious. Sven he isn't.

who is keeper 1?

as to heskey... i got bored moaning about heskey years ago... hes got more stamina than me!

who is keeper 1?

No one knows for sure. Probably Green, but Hart played more minutes in the friendlies and James was the number 1 before he got injured.

I'm one of the few people who's not worried about the 'keeper situation, all 3 are decent enough. I'm slightly more worried about the defence, a lot of injuries and niggles in there.

There's some speculation that Baines has been left out due to homesickness, which had been reported in various outlets before the quad was announced.

To be fair, the mind does crazy shit and I can't imagine it was a simple case of him missing Britain's Got Talent. It's a real shame but if he doesn't feel up to it and his football would suffer because of it then there's not a great deal you can do.

I feel that Walcott is a one trick pony, as Beckham was.

I think SWP is a more versatile player who offers more options to Capello. I also think that Joe Cole is a very valuable and flexible player.

Capello is ruthless, and there are no places for players who won't be useful to him.
