Eight GB crews in their rowing finals

JTG

Angry about not being able to be an astronaut.
Superb stuff, despite the British history in the sport there were still 'only' four finalists in Athens. Good to see the amount of money being thrown at the sport paying off.

Those finalists in full:

Men's coxless fours
Men's double sculls
Men's single sculls
Men's eight
Women's eight
Women's pair
Women's double sculls
Women's quad

Finals on Saturday and Sunday

Rowing's one of the sports in the Olympics I've actually done and it fucking HURTS

Lots of admiration for the people that put themselves through that every day

Innit. I did it once in university. Well hard and we probably only did 500m :D

Looking forward to these finals too

Yeah, Ive rowed too through school and uni- pairs, fours and eights. Ive only got rid of my callouses in recent years. :)

My heart and lungs would just burst. Quite unpleasant.

Excellent! - watched a few of the heats which were great

Quite interested in the rowing as it will be taking place pretty near to Maidenhead - at Eton Downey - in the 2012 Olympics

Fantastic. I might actually be able to see us pick up a medal then.

I despise the bbc's highlights package of an evening. It just seems like a wankathon over this Phelps character.

Update: make that ten crews in their respective finals. The lightweight men's double scull and lightweight men's four both qualified today.

British rowing seems to be moving on from the Redgrave/Pinsent era into one of genuine strength in depth :)

They're still trawling the country for any county level athletes willing to undergo testing . . . this is just an immense central led national effort for 2012. Money no object . . . a debate for another day, I suspect.

Should be a magnificent weekend!

Yeah, just imagine if he'd trained properly :D

Apparently it started as a tooth abscess, the infection spread all the way to his knee and he couldn't walk.

 He did so well.

It did look a punishing race.

Mahe Drysadale has wrecked himself. I hope he recovers quickly.

Woohoo, Romania win gold in the women's pairs. I like a bit of Romania :)

Chinese win their first ever medal in rowing

I got a bit teary (starting early ) its the agony of the physical effort, on top of the agony of 'failure.'

Whether you come in 1st or 4th, your lungs are still screaming in your chest- you suffer for your rowing.

Not many other athletes in Beijing will have to give as much.
