From my girlfriends parents, it worked quite well in most areas.
Sure there was not choice like in capitalist countries at the time but overall basic needs were provided. Everyone had a job which was secured.
Because they were not open to the bigger market certain materials were harder to get, but that's not their fault.
What's anyone's opinion on their planned economy?
