I live on the Moorlands estate and this week i received a letter from Metroplitan housing association telling me that they had engaged Savilles (the richer man's Foxtons) to survey ALL Metropolitans' properties to "help" them better direct their repair schedules.....BULLSHIT - i've more or less been expecting this sooner or later because of the rapid speed "normal" people are being priced out of the area but this blatant lie is worthy of any scumbag politician, Suppose i'd better start finding out about living conditions in Margate,Clacton or Stoke or wherever i'll be offered a shoebox.....

Sounds like they could be working towards a mass stock transfer - but then again it might be quite innocent - just the latest manifestation of our consultancy/outsourcing for everything culture

Mmmm, tbf to Savills, they have done "consultancy"-type work for ages, but I'd still be a bit wary that a thoroughgoing surveying of Metropolitan's holdings could be because it better enables Metropolitan to assess the current value of their assets, and possibly to borrow against or realise those assets.
After all, Peabody have already established a precedent for removing "valuable" stock from social use and selling into the market, so there's nothing to stop Metropolitan (or any other HA/RSL) from doing likewise. :(

Might be worth talking to Brixton Blog and seeing if they can do a bit of digging - they've been interested in this sort of stuff before and have run articles about the Guinness Trust estate and other local developments.

Given the crazy accomodation costs round here, I wouldn't be surprised if MHA were eyeing up Moorlands for "redevelopment".

A mate was saying recently that Peabody were the main drivers behind the "skyscraper" plans at Clapham Junction, based on redeveloping (after decanting) the entire estate on St John's Hill, and then being a "development partner".Also looks like they'll shed about 150 dwellings (from 800 to 650) when (because it ain't "if", is it?) it happens. :(
Wonder what the old Yank who founded the trust would be thinking of them doing this. I suspect that he wouldn't be amused.

Agree with CH1. Its all part of consultancy culture.

The estate was originally Council Estate that was transferred to MHT. What you need to find it, if possible, is the terms of the transfer. Whether the Council set conditions for the transfer. Such as the properties remaining as social housing etc.

However I have heard that MHT rents are going up a lot. Is that the case? Bumped into someone who lives there who said if it goes up more he will have to move further out of London.
