Dulwich Hamlet v Charlton Athletic XI, Sat 18 July 3pm

So, so true! :D
Horses for courses I guess. We don't wear wool scarfs in July and part take in enthralling statistical debates about how 700 on a Saturday is better than 500 on a Tuesday.

We put in a youth team in the KSC as per the gentlemen agreement for league clubs. Gillingham broke this agreement in the final but were still dispatched by our kids.

What do Charlton do?

Why dont we compete in the Surrey Senior Cup anymore? Im aware of why we dropped out initially, but surely our finances could cope with this now. I think it seems like a good opportunity for competitive football for the likes of Mascoll et al, especially when the Capital League is imploding unspectacularly. Think it's a shame we dont compete in it given our history in it too.

Wouldn't mind a return to that competition though if you're going to consider as a way of blooding new players there's always the danger of going out at the first attempt to a supposed lesser side. Viz. the Beckenham game last season.

Thought we played well and I think there's a real confidence growing around the place that this side can genuinely compete for the title this season. Shame Charlton didn't really advertise this fixture - I looked on the website before the game and I couldn't find a mention of it. Disappointing really: think the crowd could easily have been twice the size if there'd been a bit more coverage.

Charlton brought multiple big boys - French International Alou Diarra, Andre Bikey, Johnnie Jackson, Igor [insert his impronouncable surname here] - along with a few kids that have been around the first team, e.g. Zak Ansah (cousin of our former striker Charlie Taylor). I thought we gave them a very good test today and remained competitive throughout. Again, we weren't full strength: Charlie Penny was involved in fitness exercises before the game, Dean Lodge was absent and I understand that Steve Sutherland has left to join an unnamed team to take up a coaching role. I'm beginning to assume that McCoulsky has moved on to pastures new too given his absence from all the friendlies so far. Really good to see Jack Dixon playing again though; he got a few minutes towards the end of the second half...
Can we use bits of this for a FTH pre-season round-up please? With credit, obvs.

I don't wear my scarf in July either.

The last two times I've been to Charlton were a dreadful defeat and one of the most boring games I've ever been to between two relegation contenders. So yes, Champion Hill tends to be more fun.

Shame to see any hint of sniping between Hamlet and Charlton fans. I have certainly had a lot of fun last season going to Champion Hill, and a lot of fun as a long term Charlton fan as well.

I am fond of both clubs...if that's allowed.

Just picked up on news about some aggro between Clapton (who I know are well regarded here), and Thamesmead, with a possible racist angle to it all. I hope the good guys (non racist, community minded football folk) are OK, and if they had the courage to stand firm against intimidation I say more power to them.

I hope any racist Charlton element involved was a tiny minority, because we are an anti racist club, but have to be, and we have to acknowledge we have some unpleasant followers. it is harder to isolate some elements when the numbers are bigger (than at Dulwich).

Anyway I hope both clubs have a great season, I certainly intend to be there (Champion Hill) on September 5th.

Glory hunter.

all of my sniping at Charlton is done with love! I think they're a great club and I wish them all the best, except when they're playing Huddersfield obviously.

Amused that anyone would think I was a glory hunter tbh...:)

Having sat next to clog at The Valley last season, watching her face drop as the Huddersfield keeper repeatedly picked the ball out of his net, I can confirm she isn't a glory hunter :D:p

Clog, with your Terrier hat on, indeed with your Hamlet hat on, indeed as a regular person....what did you make of the Charlton fans reception of Chris Powell?
