Dulwich Hamlet v Charlton Athletic XI, Sat 18 July 3pm

Seems the team they are playing in Belgium this weekend have a 3G pitch, so they are taking no risks with players that might have issues or increase risk of injury by playing on it.

Result for us, maybe not on the pitch

I am really looking forward to this. Relying on Dulwich to wreak revenge on Charlton for beating Huddersfield so comprehensively at the Valley last season. (this makes sense to me if no one else)

Bring it on! :D:thumbs::mad:

Will only losing by 2 do you well?

A lifelong Charlton fan here, but also a Dulwich Hamlet aficionado, I am gutted to be missing this as I am at a reunion with people some of whom I have not seen for 40 years.
It's right that the other Charlton team are playing on a 3G pitch tomorrow in Magritte country, and the lush forgiving turf of Tuscany is a special treat for players (some good players) returning from injury.
I know he isn't exactly Transpontine, but you might be interested to know that the marvellous Johnnie Jackson is probably the most London of London footballers playing, having been born and brought up in Covent Garden, his dad being a black cab driver. Johnnie is a favourite son these days, especially known for buying rounds of drinks for supporters when returning to London on the train when we have been playing away.
Will be there in spirit.

Two more first-teamers due to appear for Charlton - midfielder Alou Diarra and (excellent) striker Igor Vetokele back from Belgium too. And aye, Johnnie Jackson is one of the best North Londoners to have seen the light in recent years - a proper old-fashioned captain.

I was away for an Altona 93 friendly today. On the trip I was looking for the result and just found the Barclays Asia Trophy - wtf is that?

Must have been a good second half for the Hamlet?!

First half I feel like we weren't really bad, being 2-0 down and Charlton were on the defence for most of it. We seemed good on the attack as well, but I feel like at times we rely on crossing into the box a little too much.

For what I remember of the second half we did well, ended up leaving early to get home for personal matters but to see we brought it back to 3-2 is definitely something! Might not be Charltons strongest XI but a good result.

Great goal from Johnny Jackson. Some of our young players look extremely promising, our proud history on that front continues! Very surprised to see such a strong team with the first team in Belgium being beaten 4-0 this evening.

I thought Hamlet should've got a penalty in the first half and their right back looked very strong. On the contrary our number 6 Bikey looked hopeless even against Ryman League opposition! Your team was very organised, you're keeper wouldn't shut up! I was disappointed with the small crowd and lack of atmosphere though.

All the best for the season.

Thought we played well and I think there's a real confidence growing around the place that this side can genuinely compete for the title this season. Shame Charlton didn't really advertise this fixture - I looked on the website before the game and I couldn't find a mention of it. Disappointing really: think the crowd could easily have been twice the size if there'd been a bit more coverage.

Charlton brought multiple big boys - French International Alou Diarra, Andre Bikey, Johnnie Jackson, Igor [insert his impronouncable surname here] - along with a few kids that have been around the first team, e.g. Zak Ansah (cousin of our former striker Charlie Taylor). I thought we gave them a very good test today and remained competitive throughout. Again, we weren't full strength: Charlie Penny was involved in fitness exercises before the game, Dean Lodge was absent and I understand that Steve Sutherland has left to join an unnamed team to take up a coaching role. I'm beginning to assume that McCoulsky has moved on to pastures new too given his absence from all the friendlies so far. Really good to see Jack Dixon playing again though; he got a few minutes towards the end of the second half.

Agree with the Charlton supporter above regarding our right back, Mitchell Nelson. Think he's been our stand out player for the last few games. Defensively solid and bullish going forward, I don't think he shows any real weaknesses. I though it odd when we released Abnett, who I thought was a fairly decent full back, but this guy is definitely an improvement.

Few bits to iron out: Carew still looks defensively iffy, a lot of attacks come down our left flank and Scannell and Jarrett look a little sluggish when required to defend, but I'm being picky and I'm sure the next four games where we play teams from lower divisions will give us a good opportunity to really fine tune what already looks like a fairly fluid, coherent team.

Pinnock and Drage look like a brilliant partnership too. I've deliberately watched Drage for the last few games and he's been bordering on flawless. For someone so composed at the back its hard to believe he's only 22. Genuinely wouldn't be surprised if some pro clubs are looking at him.

Nice to see Osman Proni come on for the final few minutes as well. He's out Gav's academy and whenever I've seen him play he looks very comfortable on the ball in the middle of the pitch. Looks to be a very classy player.

A good performance. An impressive pre seasom continues.

Small crowd? Decent number of Dulwich there, maybe Charlton could have brought more than 3?

Pffffffffft.

Actually, I wish Charlton had publicised it more. The rest of the team were at Sint-Truiden, which is also owned by secretive CAFC proprietor Roland Duchatelet (and the childhood team of his chief exec Katrien Miere), so they would have known of the 3G pitch there. I guess they were too focused on that to realise they could have done a neighbouring side a real favour (and advertised themselves too - bloody hell, a side coached by Jason Euell is as South London as you can get).

But this kind of minor-but-telling balls-up is typical at Charlton these days, sadly - the fun and games of when your club is run by an electronics millionaire who seems to be bluffing it two thirds of the time. Long story for another board...

Anyhow, was a decent match - Dulwich rose to the challenge of having strong opposition, but Charlton had the better final ball in the first half - reckon Staines Town's Joe Aribo got himself a contract after that opening goal.

Second half was more even with Charlton's pros off, and Carew's penalty was superb. But hey - South London football was the winner at the end of the day ;-)

Really enjoyed that game. I thought we played really well and bossed a lot of the match, and when we went 3-0 down it certainly wasn't a reflection of our performance.

I guess that line-up was pretty close to being Gavin's first choice XI for the new season, and right now I'm feeling pretty confident about the new campaign. Mitchell Nelson was a real stand-out at right-back, Pinnock and Drage are going to be really tough to break down in league matches, and the Carew-Waldren combo (with Dixon still available too) is looking like a bloody good central midfield. Also thought Clunis was a constant thorn in Charlton's side and is going to cause a lot of damage next season. Up front we look much more physically dominant now, with Scannell and Erskine both pretty imposing guys. If we could add Robertson to those options I'd be delighted - his strength on the ball and hold-up play have looked terrific, and he seems to be a good organiser too. I think he'd be a fantastic signing. Will be interesting to see where Penny fits in.

Anyone know how old Josh Fernandes is? He looked only around 14 to me and possibly even smaller than Erhun. Looks like he has a nice touch on the ball though.

Is it true that Sutherland has left already? That's really disappointing if so, but our defence still looks in decent shape.

I reckon we bought 3 figures to an away reserve team game at ticket prices that West Ham charged for a Europa League qualifier. Perhaps they were harder to spot as we don't wear scarfs in July. ;)

Same, really enjoyed it, thought we looked v competent in the early second half in particular. Also had to scoot off before the end so missed the last goal. All in all pretty decent. Roll on canvey island.

I think he is 17.

So I believe. He was at the Dag&Red game and said he was left out of the squad because he didn't know whether to leave or stay. Given his absence yesterday, it seemed to me that he'd made his choice. Real shame if he has toddled off. Would have loved to see him play for us for just a season.

Sutherland played for Lewes yesterday.
