Dulwich Hamlet FC back campaign to ban all gambling ads in football, but...

but no one puts two and two together and demands an admission that Peter Crouch was just put on the board for the money from TV.

The club are not receiving any payment for the documentary (stated at DHST AGM). The reason for accepting was that's it's an opportunity for the club to show how the authorities do not support clubs that are community run, and wouldn't want to see another club take this opportunity such as Dorking.

Define community run please. Fan owned and community run are two different things. You may be correct, depends on your definition. What I can say as someone who has been around the club since October 1991 this is the closest the club has been to community run. For years we alienated the local community.

I spent today at Farnham Town. Near where I live and running 41 teams. I support community run clubs but Hamlet are semi pro. It's unrealistic to compare us to Farnham. Whether that's a good thing or bad thing is a personal thing. When I moved out here I went there once and vowed never to go there again. It was awful. They appealed for money to get over Covid. Unlike many local clubs they put out a sensible plan so I bunged them a few quid. They invited me to their first home game, it was a transformed experience. From 30 people to 250 plus and 41 teams rather than two or three as was. They have made their choices. They lost to Croydon Athletic today but I'm sure they have made the right choice.

I've submitted my question for Crouch on that ridiculous site:

The gambling industry preys on the vulnerable. A third of a million of UK citizens are “problem” or “disordered” gamblers, and it's estimated that for each problem gambler, six other people – a total of two million – are harmed by the breakup of families, crime, loss of employment, loss of homes and, ultimately, loss of life. So could I ask why (a) you chose to become the face of Paddy Power over the summer and (b) how you think your profiting from the promotion of gambling is remotely compatible with Dulwich Hamlet's stance against betting?

Could you also clarify whether you are still under contract to Paddy Power or if you intend to make further promotional work with them? Thank you.

An awful lot of the questions are related to gambling or what he's actually doing for the club. He might well find it a bit uncomfortable...which blunty is no bad thing.

No, it's a fucking great thing. He's been there three months and still no one knows that the fuck it it he's doing there apart from making a career boosting TV documentary, where he is the star.

Fans have every right to question what he's doing at the club and to robustly challenge his promotional relationship with gambling. I want to hear how he squares his money making activities promoting gambling with the club's clearly stated stance against the industry. Don't you?

I'm having issues with my phone screen so in previous post I'd intended to type " bluntly is no bad thing"

You and I are very much in agreement!

Indeed. He may prefer to answer the “What flavour crisps do you like” type questions.

Not quite what Hamlet are campaigning on but this parliamentary petition may interest some of you. Warning, the back story about why it was created is deeply troubling.
