Donner Kebab meat?

Having eaten donner kebabs many years ago as a new food I thought Id try I noticed a few things that gave me cause for concern, here ya go.

1. That pole that the Kebab meats spins round on is packed layer upon layer with the raw kebab meat, how old is the meat in the middle?

2. That Pole that the kebab meat is kept in doesnt end up in the fridge at the end of the night, worra about flies that have been hiding, waiting for the kebabshop owner to shut up shop.

3. Kebab meat seems to turn a kind of greyish colour when you see bits of lying round town that drunks have discarded, why is this when its starts off brown cloured when its freshly cooked.

4. What, other than minced old sheep is in donner kebab meat, one guy in a Kebab shop when asked just said spices :(

The same age as the meat on the outside, each 'pole' is made fresh.

If the meat isn't all sold by the end of the night, it get's chucked out.

That's it. It's just a load of poor quality lamb meat, offal, and spices.

Interesting fact for the day, doner means spinning. A doner kebab is just turkish for 'spinning meat'

Intersting stuff there, unfortunatly Ive seen the 'Elephants foot' (Northern name for donner meat on the spinning pole) still on display in the kebab shop after theyve shut, though I am sure this practice isnt widespread

rubbish, i've seen loads of kebab houses just start up last night's meat pole when they open up at lunchtime. they rely on the meat being well-cooked to kill any bacteria that have developed. luckily, i don't eat meat ;)

Yeah Man
Ive seen a fair few meat poles still in the shop after closing time. :)

I saw a program about donner kebabs fairly recently & the meat is actually cooked already, it's just heated (and crisped) up on the pole.

I agree that the meat is not thrown out at the end of the night if it's not eaten.

This program I saw was filmed (partly) in a kebab factory & the meat that went into the kebab was all decent lamb. There are obviously going to be different grades & quality though I'd imagine.

What's the other question?

<edit to add> Meat turning grey, yeah, it's foul. Ever noticed that chips tend to look raw again in the morning if they've been out in the street all night? I still love a kebab & chips though. :D

If the kebab meat is good quality lamb it seems odd then that Kebabs in Bolton you actually get almost a kilo of meat for around £3, a kilo of good lamb meat in a supermarket would be around a fiver or more, i reckon its the usual ground of hooves and toenails meat, the economics of it dont add up.

Like I said, I'd imagine there are different leves of quality. But the program I saw used good quality meat. The presenter commented on it & even ate some of it 'raw' i.e. Not actually raw but cooked & minced, just before it got made into the elephant leg shape.

I think i have faint recollections of watching a programme about Kebabs, I suppose its like anything else, some kebab shops use good stuff and others use whatever they can get away with.

My brother who is a base bastard calls donner kebabs 'Axe Wounds' on account of how they look before you tuck into them, sounds like something he might have got from Viz?

I think I saw the same programme & yes, they used reasonable cuts of lamb but not the best. I also remember that one type of kebab pole is usually a mixture of Lamb & beef & spices whilst another is just lamb. Can't remember which is which tho.

I'm also pretty sure that kebab meat kept overlong on the pole was one of the worst risks for food poisining known.

im not really bothered what they're made out of.. they taste lush when pissed.. but the next day taste like B.O. yes I have eaten cold kebab in the morning  tastes even worse than BO when you thro it up the next day

Donner Kebabs do taste good but the suffering is always knocking on the door the next morning when you get greasy furry mouth.
Hope those Pink pants are doing well ;)

This is in fact because Kebabs are extremely poor quality 'meat'. The reason I use inverted commas when I say 'meat' is because they are not truly meat - they actually contain 12% newspaper, as well as 6% brown food colouring. When it rains, the colouring is washed away and the colour of the newspaper is revealed.

The kebabs that you find in a chip shop are not actually 'doner' or 'donner' kebabs; they are in fact 'donor' kebabs. These kebabs are made up of meat that comes from 'meat donors'. These are meat companies that donate excess, poor-quality meat that's so bad that they can't even sell to companies like Greggs, who would put this meat into their steak bakes and other such pastries, as this type of food is perfect for hiding the bad quality of the meat. So this meat is 'donated' to kebab shops across the land... in truth it's not actually donated, but it's sold so cheaply that it might as well be free. It is well known that drunkard townies do not care for the quality of the food that they eat while pissed. You see, all these heathens care about is that it can be eaten, and that's it - it's fodder to them. These people are perfect customers for the terrible quality 'food' that kebab shops produce.

youre so so right, when pissed they taste marvellous, then when you wake up with a lump of bo smelling meat next to you its ot good.......then you sniff your fingers! blerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Kabab shop on Mare st actually displays its content, fat, protien, even ash content!
Must have had them tested. Gonna have to go back & read it again

Hmm. I'm so glad I turned vegetarian before I started drinking.

I read in that "50 Worst Jobs" book about the joys of working in a kebab shop - this guy said that he would sit in a shed at the back of the job, mixing the minced lamb with sawdust and bunging it onto the pole.

True... but I'm sure a few of us remember this

In one report (not the BBC one above)... it transpired that "have you eaten at A1 kebabs?" was, for a few days, part of the diagnosis routine at the local A&E. :)

Kebab meat in France is totally different. Its like real meat.

I really can't understand this  Apart from the fact the French would just never tolerate English kebab meat.

Yet, the funny thing is, as deeply shit as English Kebab meat is - its that and only that that the English hop head craves after imbibing...

Now why is that

Greek kebabs are quite good too with their funny name 'gyros'
I think they are made with pigs though rather than sheep
