I don't think I've ever washed my car in 30 ish years of motoring. Now and again I'll clear the rubbish out of the footwells or maybe sweep out the rubble and twigs from the boot when I've been using it as a skip, but never put water or anything else on the outside.
It still seems to work. What's so bad about having a car that doesn't shine all the time?
This time of year its normally to wash the salt off to stop them prematurely rusting. My dad had the same problem when his house backed onto the coast.
Although I do like a shiny car as well.
In answer to op no. My car rarely gets very dirty. At work this evening, I gave it a quick once over with the commercial, plumbed in pressure washer at work. Despite the car not being very dirty before starting out, it did not do a very good job as it had no soap in it.

I've only washed my car once but I just put £3 in the carwash at the petrol station. Cheap entertainment for the kids too. Especially when it bent my aerial all the way back really slowly and then broke it in half
