Do we buy a second hand Dyson or a cheaper new vacuum cleaner?

R.I.P.
Can't afford a new Dyson, but have been convinced somewhat that they are better than other makes

Are they though? Do they go wrong? Am I going to regret not being able to take it back to the shop when it dies?

Should I just buy a cheaper new one and if so which one? Bissell any good?

Miele have always been my vacuum of choice. Was never impressed with Dyson really with all their bragging about patents on this, and patents on that. It's all bollocks, you want something that hardcore sucks up dust. Period.

There's a reason Henry have the market cornered with builders and decorators too. Tough as fuck they are.

Dyson are fine when they work, but they're heavy, fiddly, and a right fucking pain in the arse if you have to replace fan belt

Miele much better, longer leads, storage space for tools, different speeds. Only disadvantage is you have to buy bags (oh, and a bit on the pricey side)

What do you want for your money? Power? Filtering? Pet hair? Lightness? Manoeuvrability? Lack of bags? Ease of storage? Snazzy looks? Reliability?

How much do you want to spend?

It all depends really....

Can only spend up to £100, pet hair, my hair  I'd prefer bagless, no allergy probs, dogs bring in mud sometimes  don't care how it looks, don't mind heavy.

The one we have now has a filter you can wash, I like that too.

I've got the old version of this. It's excellent, gets good reviews and seems to meet your needs perfectly. It's got a washable HEPA filter too.

Get a Henry. nothing else that isn't stupidly expensive works anywhere near as well. they are powerful, and robust (as in i've seen one bounce down a flight of stairs more than once with no ill effect on it)

and although uprights will come with a tube so you can clear corners, the ones on Dysons are really crappy and really annoying.

oh yes, I have a dyson at home andit takes more effort to clean my small flat with it than it does to hoover much bigger places that I work in with a henry.

My ex got a Dyson ooo 15 years ago. I was reading the small print of the instructions and it said you needed a microfilter which had to be changed every year. As I remember they cost about £100 each, which was about the maximum i wanted to pay in total. Is that still true does anyone know?

Washable filter sounds good if you're getting a bagless one. Bags aren't really a problem though as far as i can see it has to go somewhere.

henry you get a bag of heads things including a corner cleaning thing you can stick on the long pole.

as i've said, it is probably the best gadget we have ever bought.

Bags are out, totally, the amount of crap my dogs and land surveyor husband bring in I'd need a new one every time I used it.

Yes but Miele cost a fortune and Henry are reasonably priced.

TBH The Sebo is ace - I don't know what the Miele is like. The problem is I spent £200 on a fucking hoover when I could have spent £90 on a Henry that does exactly the same thing.

also because you're basically hoovering with a light pole, it's better than lumbering a great big unit around.

i can actually feel my blood start to boil as i know it is the greatest hoover going and i am annoyed i am having this convo :)
