DJ Flora (Flynn & Flora)

Heard news today that DJ Flora has passed away. It's not my kind of music, so I don't know if she was very well known outside of Bristol, but it seems really sad as she can't have been very old.

RIP.

Sucks in so many ways. Remember going to see her at the Depot back in the 90's, still listen to Flynn and Flora tunes to this day.

I'm glad someone did a thread about Flora as I did log on to do so but was far too upset to be able to manage it at the time. I first met her in the mid 90s when I was working behind the counter at HMV. We had a lot of leeway in being able to sell stuff for local labels on a sale-or-return basis and would settle with them straight from the till at the end of the month. Flora was notorious in turning up once a week and hassling us to sort her out for what records we had sold of hers. She always had a winning smile that would persuade us to break the rule with a promise that we would never do this again even though we all knew this was bs.

Later on she did run Cosies for a while and booked me and my mates quite a few times for dj duties. She would give the same smile as we persuaded her to put one more round on the DJ 'tab' and it's the one I will always remember. The term Bristol Underground is overused but she really did represent the true and not manufactured spirit of it. She is a massive loss to the city and will be truly missed by her fellow dj's and wider community here.

RIP Flora
