Desmond Dekker: R.I.P.

It mek me sad

Ah, the Dekker dictionary. Another reason why I like him: he's one of the few recorded voices that always talks about 'Nincompoops', instantly reminding me of my gran. She used nincompoop as often as I swear.

I'm going to start using that term more again now. The nincompoop revival starts here.

:)

You vex me Dub. All the nincompoops in the world and you had to sully this thread...

I'm off to check out what the conspiracompoops are upto in the general forum.

:( ;)

Just seen this thread, and now very sad indeed:(

His music always makes me smile.
Sleep well, Sir.

:( Israelites & Itmek were the songs that effectively introduced me to Reggae, so thanks Desmond for that & lots more ............ Rest in Peace

Such a shame. RIP.
:(

Just goes to show how much we take our musicians for granted. I never saw Desmond Dekker play, but I always assumed our paths would cross at a festival sometime so didn't go out of my way. Same with the Go-Betweens these last few years. Because I'd seen them quite a bit, I didn't bother going to their shows in 2005 and 2004 - I thought "there'll always be another chance to see the Go-Betweens". No longer.

:(

RIP to them all.

:( RIP Mr Desmond Decker,,,

I seen him at Cardiff Bay a year or two ago,, jigging and jiving like he was a young 'un,,, Great performer,,

Bless you DD ,, I had a fab time xx

I was there too! - Was that the time a girl in the audience managed to get onstage with a handful of harmonicas and then accompanied him through the whole gig? It was excellent and he looked full of beans (although somewhat unable to fill his leather trousers!)

It's a real shame - :(

wierd. The more iv though about this today the sadder iv become.
Quite gutted actually. What a fucking shame.

God bless you DD

Brought back memories of coffee bars in the late 60's. An expresso and listening to the Israelites. Not much could beat that at the time being a mod.

Got to see him in the early 80's, passed me the mike 'an all. Will be missed, but his music legacy lives on.

I can't remember the last time I posted in this forum (probably never), but the news and the five minutes item on channel 4 just want to make me say RIP desmond:(
