Cloverfield

Interesting hint here of a sequel. According to the director the monster in this movie is actually a baby! When and where will the parents turn up!?

watched this last night and thought it was superb, although I had completely missed the inetrenet hype (apart from a brief glance at this thread).

Some of it didn't work so well for me, such as the scene in the subway when the rats are all running away and the guy is like 'use the night vision feature'. As soon as he said that you knew there was going to be something right there.

Also, because we knew the film had been found, we knew noone was going to survive. And the very end bit was a bit too cheesy for my liking.

All in all I'd give it say 8/10

Watched it last night and at the risk of sounding redundant, I too thoroughly enjoyed it, for all the reasons everyone else has already mentioned.

I particularly liked the interchanges between the recordings, hence shortly after catching a glimpse of something I took to be the profile of a fucking large monster, I turned to my girlfriend and commented that it looked like Godzilla; a moment later, as Hud stops recording, we see the trip out to Coney Island to a catch a moment of conversation: "it's Japanese, it's Japanese," and then we're back to the present.

Seen it last night at the cinema and I loved it.
My only criticism is that it was too short.

Well it's a short, waddygannado? Whadda you from Joyzee? Why-I-oughta.

Yeah liked it, the monster was cool. Not sure we needed the face-to-face money shot in the park tbh but it's small pickings.

I watched Cloverfield last night and I really enjoyed it, especially having seen another shaky cam fast-paced thriller/action movie the night before - {Rec} - which I found lost it's way.

I'd no idea about the premise of the film itself, other than that it was a 'shaky-cam' movie/monster move - Blair Witch Meets Godzilla. But I enjoyed it, perhaps more because I'd not looked into it other than the odd casual recommendation here and there.

There are a couple of hints towards a sequal on the US NTSC DVD (it's been available for about the past week - the PAL UK version comes out later this month I think with Blu-Ray to follow). There are two alternate endings - one in which it's speculated the two surviving characters survive (with the second not differing so much). I've also read somewhere that there is a shot where the lead character (I'm shit with names - they guy who was going to Japan) was on the Brooklyn Bridge, another character (not one I think we were introduced to) was also videoing footage. It's been speculated that the sequel may take the point of view of this other guy, perhaps expanding on the effects on the nuclear bomb being hit on NY - whether the monster was still alive, was the monster the only one etc.

Anyway I'm happy to have spent an hour and a half watching it - available to download at your favourite Bittorent tracker now (get the DVD for the documentaries, directors commentary. alternate endings, Easter Eggs etc)

)

I heard something like that. Two sequels both from different POV but set at the same time as the first film. Bit like Back to the future 2. Or not.

Yep heard the same from the director, there's a point in the film where it shows a shot of someone else with a camera, both films would intersect at that point I'd guess.

Watched it on Friday night at home. Really enjoyed it.
Fav bits include the tunnel and I guess the initial panic just after the Brooklyn Bridge bit where they are all arguing about what to do and the army roll on through.
Also love the bit where they climb one tower to get to another. Very cool. Did make my tummy flip a bit though when they are coming back.

I am struggling to get past the party. 16 minutes in and all I have done is watch people talk about rather inane things in their lives that I don't care about since I barely know any of their names let alone like them as characters in the 15mins I have got to know them.

It is like a really unfunny episode of Friends so far. I am hoping it picks up soon.

Man that was rubbish.

This film was the biggest pile of shit I have seen in many a year.

I'd give it 2/10 and that's being generous

I fucking want a refund on the 90 odd minutes I'd spent watching this fucking pile of crap.... and the 30p on a blank DVD and the leccy used to d/l.

Thank fuck I didn't pay to watch this at the cinema, I'd be chucking M+M's at the screen.

Borrowed from imdb!
"For 20 minutes it was a going away party, then something blows up so everyone runs down to the street and starts yelling about what to do, then something blows up and everyone runs into a building and starts yelling about what to do, then they decide to go find their friend and go outside and something blows up so they run into the subway and yell about what to do, then there's a 2 second flash of some spider alien attacking someone so they run out of the subway into the arms of some military triage and yell about what to do, then the person who got attacked was infected and they blow up, so then the people run away and yell about what to do, then something blows up so they go into a building and yell about what to do, then they get their friend and something blows up so they run to central park and yell about what to do, then the monster shows up for 2 seconds and kills the cameraman so someone else grabs the camera and they run under a bridge and yell about what to do then something blows up and its over."

A colleague had recommended this pile to us, we were hopeful, openminded and then grimly let down.

Just watched it on DVD tonight. . . somehow have managed to miss ALL of the hype around this (and many other films for that matter not having a TV)

Wrong wrong wrong.

Cloverfield was tops.

You get back to your Archers, you, and leave the awesome giant monster films to people with taste.

:p

Us youngsters have the energy to stay up late, you want to get your Horlicks and tartan slippers before you get cranky.
