Call Of Duty 4

Omar Commin!
Zomg how good is this game?

I have only played the PC version though which is slightly choppy on my rig. If i run it in 800*600 it will just about hold the refresh rate (60fps) on my Athlon 6000 and X1950 card but I really want it running 1680*1050 and its around 25-40 fps at that resolution.

I really need to know what the 360 version is like. Apart from the obvious crapness of using a joypad for an FPS game, what are the frame rates and visuals likely to be like compared with my rig?

The 8800 Gt is out this week, I guess that would run it fine but spending £175to play one game?

I just dunno, 360 version or run it in 800*600?

i GOT A NEW CARD FOR cOd 4...

damn caps..

so when I buy it it'll have cost me £145

But on the other hand the card has made all my other games look amazing so its definatley the best investment I have made on technical gadgetry probably ever...

but if you have a 360 version I would go with that over 800*600 on an old pc

I bought a whole new rig!

Only problem was that the 8800GT wasnt out yet so I bought a x1950 pro for the meantime thinking this would probably run COD ok which it does for most people, it's just that for online play I must get a constant refresh rate 60FPS or I'm not happy.

If anyone would like to buy a brand new X1950 pro 256mb PCI-E boxed and used for a week for £50 delivered then drop me a PM.

Very good, very Brooker. Especially as I took a break from playing it to download Eastenders for the mrs and watched it.

Airborne is a bit hectic, and repetative, but Call of Duty 4 is very intense. A bit too much so. Maybe it takes a bit to get attuned, but it's absolute bloody chaos! Which is probably intentional.

Personally, I mostly prefer WW2 shoot 'em ups, cos at least then you know you're shooting proper baddies. Not whatever America has deemed evil.

Still can't play any Vietnam FPS games as I don't really want to shoot Viet Cong. Yes, I'm a liberal pussy.

I've just played call of duty 2 in DX9 mode and got almost identical results FPS wise even though it looks half as good.

I'd say COD4 runs identical to COD2 in DX 9 mode but COD 4 has way better graphics. SO if you could run COD2 you can run COD4 at basically the same speed.

Have they really got that good, I lost interest half way through 2, played 3 a bit and it just felt like they'd succumbed to the same thing the Medal of Honour (which started out excellent) did...

The 360 version has been scene released now - will download it when I get home. It's got about a thousand seeders so it'll probably only take about 40 minutes to download.

It's like being in the middle of a riot or something innit. They have definatley managed to get a feeling that is missing from previous games. I think it's due to the amount of people on screen. Feels like a proper war going on.

No I am slightly worried - I got the x1950 pro AGP with 512mb, 2gb ram and an old dual core - I am hoping I should get half decent performance from COD 4

Yeah I think it should run fine. Like I said it runs roughly the same as COD 2. I'm just being a fussy bastard and trying to run it in 1680*1050.

I had it doing around 50fps average on an XP3200 with an X1650 card at 1024*768. If you do have to drop resolution I wouldn't worry as you can compensate by turning on anti aliasing. It does look stunning even in 800*600 belive it or not.

Watch some of the footage.. particularly the 'perks' trailer.. then you'll want to play it.

Might take a look, this is more idle curiosity then intent to buy; I don't have a gaming PC now or an Xbox360 (and not likely to get one of those until next year too)...

Was playing this in the wee hours of last night. It's got absolutely beautiful graphics - perhaps the best I've seen on the 360. And as others have mentioned it's really intense/absorbing, right from the opening mission (which sees you storming a submarine).

Don't want to sound pompous and I know its only pixels but i never play modern warfare games, especially where you are an U.S marine in the Middle East, its a not too subtle form of propaganda and I refused to watch Top Gun as well!

<arrogant mode> Yeah but the average CoD player is far brighter than the average TG viewer so that's less a problem. :D

That's a negative Ghost rider, the pattern is full.

you know your problem Treelover? You're dangerous

COD4 demo works like a dream on nearly full spec 1280*1024

The Demo is too short though - how come all those 360 players got a multiplayer beta

I fired up COD 1 on multiplayer to get my trigger finger back in. Its still good! Playing COD 4 demo there seem to be persistant COD qualities, but generally the targeting with the guns and the kick from firing them are way more satisfying and the graphics are mind boggling, but the blatting of enemies keeps that familar COD feel. I'll definatley pick it up Friday. This is going to cut into my WoW time...

i played one and two and finished one, but lost interest a bit in 2, bought 3 but now i can't find it:mad: (always put them back in the case:( )

liked medal of honor, i think i've got 3 of them

me like me war games:cool: i will probably succumb and buy cod4, there are some more medal of honor ones aren't there? i played front line and rising sun

Woha! The real game is much better than the demo...

I *loved* the pre titles mini level - brilliant voice acting and action. Graphics amazing.

I think I'm going to like this.

And who was the SAS captain? Hmm, nicely done.

I now have one day to decide if it should be PC or 360...

I've ironed out any performance issues on the PC. I can live with frame dips to a low of 40 fps and a 1280:1024 res. I doubt the 360 runs at anywhere near a constant 60fps anyway. Plus you have the mouse aim and real servers up to 64 players.

Only thing is the majority of friends play 360 and the live experience can be a little less lonley, the voice chat making it seem more sociable.

End of the day thou, I don't think I will ever be able to aim with a joypad. Halo is sat on the shelf unused and listening to yanks babbling does get boring eventually.

I think check how many people you get in the various online set ups - I theink it may be a lower amount on the PC - but I am not sure!
