Buildings insurance / subsidence claim help needed

Would it not be odd not to mention 2014 and cracks opening up again where they have done work?
What do you expect them to do with the information? It doesn’t really change the nature of what they need to do. A structural engineer won’t need your informed memories, they will take measurements and calculate accordingly. And the insurer doesn’t need your memory — they have every detail already better than you do.

Actually I think a structural engineer would be interested in any history of the building, whether remembered or documented. They'd be basing their assessment on whatever evidence was available. Their report for this sort of thing would not really be based on calculations - it would be observations and then an opinion on whether something progressive was going on and what the likely causes were.

But they would ask about anything they considered relevant and the same applies to the insurance company or whoever acts on their behalf.

Yes. I don't remember any measuring last time. Just walking around for a few minutes taking a look. The second round of changes were just done after new pictures were sent.

Good afternoon everybody. I still have not made a claim as I have been away on holiday and then in bed with covid, but yesterday I got an email from AXA about a renewal on my policy.
I decided to bite the bullet and call them about the discrepancy.

First they told me that nothing was logged as subsidence, the policy stated 'storm damage'. This would have been because I initially noted the damage when a storm tore off pebble dashing and revealed cracks. The chap I spoke to on the phone went to the main database where my old claim is indeed loggged as subsidence.

The upshot is, there should never have been a box for me to tick one way or another, it should have just said that there had been subsidence in the last 10 years. AXAs mistake, not mine. I should not have been told not to tick it, it should not have been there to tick one way or another.

I was told that it is too late for them to change the cost of my policy, but that they will just keep it at the same cost.

So basically I am covered and it was all their fault. I shouldn't have had to worry about calling them.
Unfortunately I am a worrier and this has played heavily on my mind and made me feel sick on an almost daily basis. I know it's stupid, but that's the way it is (coincidently I am now getting counciling about my anxiety issues).

Now I just have to worry about making a claim and cross my fingers for refurbishment of the whole house.

I’m glad that it’s a case if so far, so good
It's really the only thing I was worried about. Had I not covered myself for subsidence cracks?
Now at least I can log a claim and someone can have a look.
I can tell them whatever I think is relevant and mention the old cracks that are now bigger.
I can see that I had previously mentioned cracks around the house and can see emails from AXA (via quest gate) telling me they were nothing to worry about and would not get bigger /are not part of the claim.

All I have to do now is tell the truth. If anything I should have hounded them more and been a more vocal 'pain in the arse' eight years ago.

Thanks for all your help kabbes.
