Broadchurch series 2

not the only raver in the village
The first series was excellent. I know, good drama on ITV!

The first episode of series 2 was a bit muddled. the producers have said they don't want to do the same again so it won't be another murder mystery. It lacked the visceral impact of the the beginning of series 1 - no body found on the beach.

I'll wait and see what develops. One point that irks is that they either didn't speak to anyone about how barristers operate or ignored any advice they were given. The scene with the defence counsel in London was so far from reality to be ridiculous. In fact all scenes with barristers in were poorly scripted. Maybe it's only legal bods like me who notice. But they might as well get it right

I agree... filming and drama was usual high standard... but so many inconsistencies which even as non legal folk got in the way of our enjoyment..things like disinternment doesn't happen without a lot of forewarning and legal process (and we didn't think the legal teams would be present for it!).
Have still booked in the next 7 Monday nights.

You don't choose your own prosecuting barrister do you? The CPS chooses them. And the disinternment was ridiculous. Still, great cast and Ms Coleman is superb. I will stick with it for the timebeing

I agree the disinternment thing was shockingly inaccurate, however I'm hooked on this second series already.

They somehow managed to make a bloke saying not guilty instead of guilty the most epic and intense thing ever.
The acting is all amazing, and I love the tiny little bits of unexpected humour they scatter throughout. Bloody loved it.

Apparently there were loads of ex Dr Who people. I think I saw Martha's mum.
Mind you, practically everyone's been in Who by now.

Just got to watch the first episode. Some good humour, some serious bits, some tense bits. I loved it. I'll be watching it, regardless of inaccuracies.

We loved it too, I gasped when he said not guilty. I just assumed the trial would wrap stuff up and they'd move on to a new case.

Yeah, there are bits that aren't particularly realistic but then neither was Ellie or Danny's dad being allowed in to see Joe in the last series. It just wouldn't happen.

I'm so glad it's back. [emoji4]

An excellent start to the second series. I was half expecting for it to disappoint after the first series but it quickly captured my imagination and kept it throughout.

Hmm, I'm not sure about the confession being withdrawn like that.
I don't know much about law but there is no evidence that the confession was taken under duress, and its totally understandable that a wife would attack her husband after finding out he'd murdered a child like that. Alec couldn't pull her off (fnar) as he'd only just come from the hospital and he was in terrible nik. Too ill to beat up any fully grown man an all.

The lack of legal accuracy undermines the credibility of the plot...If "the archers" can have an agricultural story editor then surely something like this would have some legal advice? Taking artistic license a bit far. Brilliant acting mostly though.....

I missed the first series so it was hard to understand what the flipping heck was going on in the first episode but I think I'm getting hauled in. Olivia whatsherface is such a brilliant actress.

She is a great actress but she is so wasted in this. She only gets to use one facial expression. I'm over it. Plus I'm pretty sure I know what's going to happen.

I only saw the last half hour or so of the original. So far I am failing to see what is meant to be so bloody brilliant about this. Colemans fine, Tennant is good, it all looks very pretty, but the story...and the lawyers...and the whole Eve Myles backplot seems a bit daft.

I presume Series 1 was rather better.

The whole "off the books" witness protection subplot is nonsense as well, particularly the reunion meeting last night.

It's an undemanding watch for a Monday night. The landscape is nice.

Don't look for any legal accuracy in this series

I was wondering what would happen with a surprise 'not guilty'. Would the prosecution be as prepared as if they expected a 'guilty' or would they not be ready and call for immediate adjournment? Is it realistic they would be back in court in what appears only a few days later? Equally so the defence that appears to be starting from scratch.

The first series was an okay whodunnit, if rather generous with clues as to the murderer's identity. Colman and Tennant were great. But it's not worth joining in at this point. The plotting is daft, for all the reasons above re criminal justice system procedure, and also the idea that Eve Myles could have been hidden for months in a terrifyingly neighbourly and gossipy village. And there's no real reason to care about the Sandbrook murders; odd that the mum wasn't brought back for this series.

Who is paying for the cottage Eve Myles is hidden in? David Tennant would be spending all his pay on those two holiday homes and have no cash spare with which to henna his hair (like coppers do).

No chat on here after this weeks episode - a sign of disappointment in this series?

I'm still watching but it's a bit meh. I can't follow which bits are the case from the first series and which bits are from tennants back story.
