I am not afraid of change. I think I’ve said this before...So you're fully behind what you've just described as the "definition of gentrification"?

That's such a weak and historically inaccurate argument. Some areas of Brixton may have had a wealthier past, but that wasn't through the process of gentrification which is entirely different.and anyway it’s re gentrification
In the interests of getting this thread back on topic I will stop replying to you. That's such a weak and historically inaccurate argument. Some areas of Brixton may have had a wealthier past, but that wasn't through the process of gentrification which is entirely different.
Probably for the best because you've already embarrassed yourself enough with your trollish tosh.In the interests of getting this thread back on topic I will stop replying to you.
Steve Whitson? He was legendary. His funeral was at Ovalhouse not long after I started. No one told the undertakers what to do with his ashes so they brought them back to Oval House. I had him in a carrier bag under my desk for a while. He has a rehearsal studio named after him at the ArtsAdmin building at Toynbee Studios. There might have been a fair bit of stuff but unfortunately I think most of it has gone over the years. One of the friends of the family did a lot of stuff (lighting director I think) for oval back in the before time and when he passed away a lot of his stuff ended up with us.
Why?Surely this is gentrification? It’s pretty much the definition of gentrification I would have thought?
Regarding your pricing suggestions, the Ovalhouse/Brixton House has an event coming up at 100 Barrington Road at the end of AprilI don’t drink pints. Are we talking £3 a pint?
Cos I’m thinking £12-15 a ticket.
Yeah(I still sorta remember the funeral)... as for the ashes they are now in our kitchen.
maybe that bag too.
Unfortunately I think Brixton brewery is rather unfairly reviled in these parts since Heineken bought a minority stake in it.Ovalhouse tickets have ranged from £3 / £5 to £17.
Once we open the new theatre there will be various schemes - e,g preview prices for local residents, local membership schemes , whatever proves popular, so it is good for people to say what suits them best as we approach our pricing structure. Do you like concessions based on your circumstances (and what should they be? How defined?) Should Brixton residents have a discounted price? Lambeth residents? If preview prices are low, are you organised enough to book for them? This is the sort of thing we will be looking at. For the cafe, too.
We moved to stocking only local beers at our old theatre - that was popular. Brixton Brewery sponsored our Topping Out with beers for the construction crew, Reliance Pale Ale is a big favourite. (mine, anyway). Other top sellers in our old cafe were Peckham Pils and Kernel. But we will be able to have draught in the new bar.
A key thing is keeping the participation programme for young people properly affordable.

Postcode would be a bit shit. Unless you have a social tenancy those are two of the most expensive postcodes in the borough. The Southbank used to have a Lambeth residents card. It meant I got a big discount at Hayward Gallery for example. Since they stopped it I havent been to Hayward.
So a non means tested Lambeth residents membership to get discount is an idea.
All that is needed is some proof of residence.
Or based on local postcode. SW9/ SW2

You're the only one bringing this up, but to be clear: Heineken - the second biggest brewing company on the planet - bought nearly half of the Brixton Brewery.Unfortunately I think Brixton brewery is rather unfairly reviled in these parts since Heineken bought a minority stake in it.
How about anyone who gets a council tax reduction in Lambeth?Postcode would be a bit shit. Unless you have a social tenancy those are two of the most expensive postcodes in the borough.
Firstly, I don't think it appropriate that people should be compelled to reveal their council tax status to a third party and, secondly, there's plenty of people in poverty who don't have a council tax reduction for a multitude of reasons. How about anyone who gets a council tax reduction in Lambeth?
You've missed Big Bertha's point - which is that single people in mansions would get cheap tickets and families in council flats would pay full whack.Firstly, I don't think it appropriate that people should be compelled to reveal their council tax status to a third party and, secondly, there's plenty of people in poverty who don't have a council tax reduction for a multitude of reasons.
I suspect Oval House does not have that kind of budget at its disposal.imagine green walls instead of all that ugly cladding...
How do you know?Which is so much more sustainable than steel.
