Also I have just inherited a really nice 'cream/silver' coloured 102x46cm ottoman which I plan to use as a combined footrest and coffee table. Because I am clumsy and regularly drunk I need this.

Just nail some skirting board around the top of the ottoman. Job jobbed.

Should be easy to find but am after one around 80/90cm x 40cm which does not seem to be what my searches consider a 'large' tray.

Here you go. It's 900mm x 400mm I've recessed the bottom so it'll sit over your ottoman without sliding around/falling off when you're pissed and knock you it.

If it doesn't fit correctly or you need it a different colour, let me know.

It's quite large. You might be better off making it out of wood

Not easy to distress ebony. But you can get a distressed ebony look by using ebony-black stain on a different wood. Personally, I'd have the ebony look on the perimeter only and then have the handles and base in a lighter.
Or dark all over with a strip of pale inlay round the walls.

Would be a nice project made from hardwood. Lifetime job.

To be fair there’s tons on eBay Dirt cheap. Postage is expensive but may be within price range. Give the legs etc to the local scrap man.

eg. not quite right size but you get my jist.
