Recommendation Best software/hardware for fairly basic DJing?

Oh I've not tried that. Do you mean internally on the computer or via line out?
Using the program itself internally. The record button was always greyed out on lite which was a change when I used it before. It's been ages since I sorted it out though so can't remember exactly what happened.

So I'm faffing between the Pioneer DDJ 400 and the Pioneer DDJ SB3.
I prefer the DDJ 400 but the bundled Serato looks much easier on the DDJ SB3. Or is Rekordbox not as fiddly as it looks?

Rekordbox is fine and will work for what you do (you don't mix, loop and apply effects do you?). Remember you get the full version of Rekordbox with the DDJ-400 but only the lite version of Serato with the SB3. Also, the SB3 has a few gimics that make it easier to mix dance music (as well as some scratch features) which again, I don't think you would need?

I do the odd loop and if it had 8-bit bomb explosion effects I'd be all over it :D

Also editor if you do loops, it's got some really decent functions i.e you can auto set different loop sizes from the pads or create your own loops using the buttons at the top of each deck.

Have you looked at denon stuff? I’ve got denon sc5000’s which i know are not what you’re looking for, but you get a lot for your monyey with denon kits and they’ve really upped their game lately

If you're unable to check one out in store to see how fiddley it is. Buy it online, it's essentially try before you buy. Don't like it. Send it back for full refund under consumer contract regulations.

How are you getting on with this? Did you find a solution for creating offline copies of spotify tracks?
Thanks to DPD fucking up the delivery - it was supposed to arrive on Monday and I gave up yesterday afternoon and went over to Clubtek in Forest Hill to buy one - I've only got as far as opening the box and looking at it. And it does look very nice!

Ah. sorry to hear about the DPD woes but looking forward to the review :)

VirtualDJ - The #1 Most Popular DJ Software is my favourite software, I’ve never got in with Traktor for some reason.

Controllers just depends on the features you need really, along with how solid it needs to be (if it has to survive drunken punters etc :D)
Seconded... I used this for years (probably 10 years ago though) it felt at times like a child's toy and a complete cheat at the trade of djing, but the functionality of the software and ease of use of the hardware totally outweighed any negatives. Quite a joy to be able to rock up at parties and bang a few tunes on without having to lug around heavy and expensive gear... Setting cue points on tracks for mixing in and out was invaluable and I found it really easy to build up sets/mix styles.
My laptop had issues with sound quality but it only really became apparent playing jungle at 90 bpm!

I was running it on xp at the time so this info can probably be disregarded!

Have you had a chance to test this properly yet? I've been requisitioned to play a wedding in July so in need of a solution which can allow me to DJ with a laptop and a streaming platform.

Not yet as I've been busy with the band but a friend of mine with the same set up says he's happy with it.

I'm literally fucking lost already. This is the first screen of the tutorial and I can't change anything!

Edit: so I just ignore that screen!

I have a DDJ-200 coming tomorrow as I’m doing a wedding in 2 weeks and I’ve been browsing for the best streaming platform which does mainstream music and which I can link rekordbox to and most importantly which also does offline backup in case of wifi going down.

I looked at Tidal but it seems they don’t do offfline storage. However it seems Beatsource may be the answer. The top tier version does 1000 tracks offline which is enough for the essentials.

Thankfully there’s also a 30 day free trial.

Have to say I'm impressed with the DDJ-200 so far. Rekordbox is pretty easy to use, the beat-sync, and effects are all pretty straightforward, and the integtation to beatport, beatsource, Tidal etc are all very convenient.

I'm currently on the 30-day trial of Beatsource Pro so I can download 1,000 tracks for offline storage which should be fine for an average wedding DJ set. They even seem to have a seamless way to export playlists from Spotify straight into Beatsource too so it doesn't need to be done manually and helps me compile tracks a lot easier (speaking as a long time Spotify subscriber with literally dozens of playlists)

FYI the Tidal app allows offline storage.

Does is also allow you store in offline mode in Rekordbox too? I was just going off the details Beatsource provided in the graphic above, which said it doesn't.

TBH having now gotten to grips with Beatsource I've realised it doesn't quite have the extensive library it promises, so I've taken to downloading tracks from Spotify directly using the Allavsoft app and importing them to iTunes and syncing iTunes playlists with Rekordbox that way. It seems to do quite a good job too, including artwork and metadata etc.

If I had Tidal, and it did do offline mode then I'd have probably done that way but I've been loathe to switch from Spotify and convert all my playlists and switch over everyone on the account, and all the alexa devices etc, as I've pretty much been with them since day one and also I can't quite shake that cringe signing ceremony from memory.
