Gonna start the thread now, even though there's every chance he won't even run.

Bernie Sanders, independent socialist senator for Vermont, has intimated in this recent interview with Salon.com that he might run against Clinton in the Democratic primaries.

American left-liberal opinion is supporting it and it's all over the US liberal internet media, take this example from the Young Turks:

So let's have the thread where we all get embarassingly sentimental and unrealistic about his chances of winning, where we build up our hopes against our better judgment and discuss why the election of Sanders will herald a new era in the class struggle which witnesses the defeat of capitalism right in it's lair.

Bernie for President 2016!

Seems like a good guy, I'd vote for him. Interesting, though, I thought Vermont was supposed to be a very conservative state. Shows how much I know about American politics.

It would make for a more an interesting debate for the Democrat nomination even if he had little chance. Although didn't Dennis Kuchinich stand and who has heard of him?

I alwsy thought it was sort of like brighton but up a mountain - at least post 60s when lots of newly monied liberals (and 'freaks') moved there. I would vote for Sanders on the basis that his uncle is Pharaoh Sanders.

In the unlikely event that this turns out to be true, I hope Bernie will choose this as his campaign song

I think the reason you had a Bush admin was election fraud in Florida and possibly one or two other places.

Hillary Clinton is Godzilla.

All she has to do is announce her candidacy and she'll win the Democratic nomination in a walk. It would be nice to have a charming fellow like Sanders in the game just for sport but even he knows he'd stand no chance.

The Democratic Party is basically a bunch of Tories who will get liberal only on issues that cost no money (gay rights, etc). That's why it will be Hillary.

Nice thread just for fun, tho.

I find that unlikely. For one thing he's not a member of the Democratic Party. And there's the numerous times he's said that he's never, ever, ever, ever, going to run for president.

I'm fond of Bernie Sanders, but he hasn't a chance. I'd rather that Elizabeth Warren would run. She doesn't have much of chance, but her odds are better than Bernie Sander's.

I'd rather she not run. We're only going to get more of the same corporatist policies as her husband. I blame him, in part, for the economic crash in 2008. If he hadn't drunk the Greenspan cool-aid and repealed Glass-Steagal, it wouldn't have happened.

That's what they look like after the lizards inject their spawn into your brain.
Cut out the middle lizard.

P = "Prescott", after his great-grandfather, Prescott Bush, who was a senator. The Bush family has been causing problems a long, long, time. He looks a bit nuts, doesn't he:

are we still allowed to enquire as to whether someone has the full shilling anymore, or has that been banned?

'coz thats a stalkery, shit-for-brains nutjob if ever there was one...

I thought Bernie Sanders was that black American comedian always on HIGNFY. I'd vote for either of them.

i was having a comfort read of some Douglas Adams this week, and just this morning read
"To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.
To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.”
