What’s currently available? What concessions are being made due to the pandemic?

Please use this thread to share the latest updates.

Zero hour contracts, the “gig” economy and general precarious income combined with widespread ruthless landlordism is a tinderbox. The Bread or Blood riots of the early 19th century are seriously on the cards again.

Anyway splitting politics from practical stuff (and apologies if I derailed it) I think this thread is a good idea.

I'm doing mostly agency work at the moment. Apparantly if you're earnings are over £118 a week (averaged over 8 weeks) you can claim SSP. I guess the same is true for zero hour contracts.

I'm mostly self employed over spring/summer and had a late start. Curious about how it works if you are self employed. Apparently you don't have to go to to claim. No direct experience, but the whole thing sounds like a nightmare.

One tiny advantage could be that people due for reassassment won't be reassessed. Of course, if that happens it would also affect people going through the appeals process.

Given the govt advice to people with health issues to self-isolate, would they still be expected to go in to the jobcentre and sign on? I mean, asthma is one of the health issues listed, and lots of people with fairly bad asthma aren't ill enough to be on ESA. Same for diabetes. If they're being told to self-isolate, surely they're also not expected to go to the jobcentre?

Mrs maomao has just been told to skip her next signing on date in two weeks and to phone up regarding future ones. She's on contributions based JSA though and they've been very gentle with her so far. Not like when we lived in Hackney.

Local jobcentre sent this email yesterday:
I hope you are all keeping well. DWP Partnership Team would like to give you an update of what is happening at ----- Jobcentres.

I show below what advise we have currently received and I am awaiting formal national guidance. Local Jobcentres are required to adhere to national procedures so currently there are no locally set procedures. I do stress that this is a rapidly evolving situation and it is expected that guidance and process will change further going forward.

Jobcentres to preview appointments and where it indicated there an underlying health condition claimants are being advised not to attend and will have telephone appointments instead.

Please use our Complex Needs statement (for Journal)

I am being supported by <organisation>, my support worker is <name>, and their contact details are <phone/email>. I may have difficulty maintaining my claim because <brief details of complex needs and any regular appointments/treatment etc>

Sanction processes paused so that if non-attendance triggers a referral and our customer indicates they have symptoms or self-isolating no further action is taken. No medical evidence required for this.

Mandatory meetings which require face to face attendance such as Claimant Commitment meetings now can be carried out over the phone. Evidence appointments for obtaining proof of identity are going to be offered instead via phone using biographical questions.

Jobcentre workers instructed to use discretion when requesting attendance and given facility to conduct appointments by phone or email.

Telephone new claims made available.

Minimum Income Floor (for self-employed) paused.

PHE advise being promoted.

Unfortunately I do not have an update as yet from the --- Assessment Centre and have made enquiries this morning.

Can I reiterate this is preliminary details and liable to change. I am seeking clarity and assurance on these and awaiting further updates.
