Beer prices around the world

have been fortunate enough to experience both extremes of late

cheapest - Beer Lao at about 50p 750ml

Most expensive - Casablanbca lager in Marrakesh @ £6.50 for 250ml.

others ?

Two Estrella in Edinburgh, almost £10, same beer here six for about €10.

400ml for about 3 quid on average in Tokyo. Complete with a two-inch head and ice encrusted glass during the summer.

I would expect to pay around 26czk for half a litre of ok beer here in a bar (about 0.79uk) bottles can be had for 12czk (with 3czk returnable bottle) in the shops.

The most I remember paying was $95 for a bottle of vodka, in Sudan though so not really a surprise.

I've heard its a tenner for a beer in Norway.

Wouldnt be surprised. Was there years ago and the prices were totally wtf . Mind you about 6 of us were being looked after for a while by the head bouncer of a fancy club who told them to give us free beer before ten 30 and half price after it .

It was their turn to do a wtf after that pretty massive lapse in judgement :D:D.

It's about 4-5 quid in Hong Kong. Altho it's actually fucking cheap in the off licenses compared to London. A can of quality lager is about 70p. And they let you drink it in the shop if you so desire, even little tables set up for it.

Tiger Beer is 55-60 baht here on Koh Tao. Just under a quid. Chang is cheaper. That's at a bar.

I tend to drink Hong Thong (Whiskey) or Samsong (Rum). Which is 240 baht/Litre (£4.50)

Christ. Sangsom. Very moreish. For various reasons I stick to beer now but I used to love a sangsom and coke in Thailand.

Chang, I was once told to totally ignore the ABV level on the label as one bottle could be 4% and the next 10%.

This is what the internet was invented for ... crowdsourced comparative beer pricing! A whole forum of it here: http://www.pintprice.com/index.php

Their Top 10 for average expense of a pint :
Greenland £7.35
Norway £6.78
Israel £6.00
Qatar £6.00
Djibouti £5.48
Singapore £5.20
United Arab Emirates £5.02
Sweden £5.00
United_Arab_Emirates £4.86
Guadeloupe £4.80

I'm teetotal myself but at the street carnivals in Cuba they sell "cerveza de pipa" - beer right out of the tank of a truck, which is apparently very watery (with added microbes, amoebae etc) and yeasty, for hardly any money at all. Costs about 20p a pint, but you can only drink it out of a waxed-paper carton (sold separately) and it gives you a banging headache even if you manage to avoid the intestinal parasites.

I used to get a litre of Old Monk rum (40%) in India for Rs.250 - about £2.85 then.
A litre of Kingfisher (5%) was Rs.45 - about 50p.

That was around 2008 and I hear that prices have gone silly since I left.
