Beautiful Days 2019-2021

I wonder what's different with this festival than the others that have had to cancel primarily through lack of insurance cover? Are the over heads much lower or have they just decided to bet the house which seems unlikely?

Yes, The Levellers do seem pretty confident, don't they?

I wonder whether they and some company or other, have worked out their own ways of organising event cover/insurance?

They should share their secret methods for the benefit of other fests! :hmm:

So with just over a couple of weeks to go it now seems inevitable that this is going ahead. When I booked it I thought no chance but the levs gamble seems to have paid off (providing we don't all get covid from all the anti-vax hippies that will doubtless be in attendance).

Its been a terrible summer weather wise so I'm a little apprehensive given this is a festival that can get very muddy. In the main though I'm just beginning to get excited. The last time I went (maybe 4 years ago) I swore it'd be my last because I've been so many times and I'd had my fill. After everything that's happened in the last 18 months it'll be grand just to be sat in a field with some friends, beer in hand.

The line-up does not inspire but quite frankly who cares?

Err, it's not been announced yet, but I've just found out I'm doing a short spot on the Sunday in the Rebel Tent! Poet mate who's organising the event between 12-2 asked me. Fucking get in! :D Hopefully see some of you there!

Nice one.

Did you already have tickets or is this a last minute thing?

I got asked to do the gig a few weeks ago, but been sorting out travel expenses and payment etc, plus I was told it was Beautiful Lives, not Days - only found out it was Days today :D I've no ticket no, was never going as a punter.

I was meant to be volunteering at Worthy Pastures next weekend, but it looks like that has now fallen through.

I've managed to bag myself a last-minute ticket for BDs now instead. Trouble is, I need to find a way to get there and back without having to shell-out £200+ for a train ticket!

So this is nearly upon us now and I'm pretty excited. I genuinely thought they'd be little chance this would be going ahead when I brought the ticket back in May / June time.

One thing I am going to do is try and avoid crowds and best I can. I'll be happy at the back where there is space when the bands are on. We know that Delta can pass between fully vaccinated people and there will be quite a few there who won't be fully vaccinated mostly because of age. I've no doubt there will be a fair few anti-vax hippies who probably made their own vaccines from stinging nettles, thistle and Otter faeces.

Still, there is noting too scary in the weather forecast yet and given the summer we've had it'll be astonishing if we get away with a relatively dry one. Bring it on.

First time going to this. Any tips? Where is good to camp if you want to get some sleep?
It is a lot easier that Glasto or Reading etc. Less crowded and a bit more of a family/older crowd. I usually camp at the top of the hill looking down on the main stage from a distance.

Get there reasonably early and have a stroll. There is always decent space.

All I ever ask is to be able to pitch my tent in the dry. It can fuck it down after that as much as it likes, but a wet tent and contents really puts a downer on proceedings.
Looking increasingly likely that it's gonna be a torrentially fucking wet pitch

Biblical rain on the Saturday, but luckily, just after I'd got the tent up. Unluckily, it wasn't my tent, and fucking leaked, so had puddles on the floor  Loved getting the chance to perform again though, nice crowd, met some great women as part of the event I was in, and the 6 hour drives there and back were pretty straightforward, although the maskless service station crowds have probably infected the fuck out of me. Am lateral-flowing every morning until Solfest.

A very decent weekend.

Due to just meeting up with old friends I didn't get to see a huge amount of acts but what I did see I enjoyed and it was nice to feel normal again if only for a few days. Considering the rain on Saturday the site held up really well which it hasn't always in the past which made for a lovely Sunday sat all day on the ground by the the main stage.

We arrived on Friday morning which seemed to coincide with the NHS app breaking down so that sort of thing fell apart. I took one look at the Bimble Inn on Friday and Saturday night and though no way, was nice to sit outside of it though and soak up some of the vibes.

Considering everything that has happened I thought they did an amazing job to put on an event which ran so smoothly. Only real grumble was the toilet situation where there clearly were not enough. This festival has excelled at this is the past so this must have been a covid related problem so I'm prepared to cut them a lot of slack for that. Still, can't have been great for women and young families.

All in all a very enjoyable weekend, I still think its quite a tame festival but given everything that has happened that'll do.

I really wish that I'd been able to go, but I was confined to hospital :( and my ticket went to festivaldeb's friend Yvonne instead. They reported very good vibes generally,

I am now utterly determined to get to Beautiful Days 2022**, which will be my first since 2018! ....... I'll start a new thread in the Spring :)

**Along with Glastonbury and a load of others! Next year will be my semi-retirement year, and I'll very much need to celebrate!

I heard the same.

Sadly those porta bogs are the perfect place for Covid transmission. Hot and damp enclosed environments are a petri dish and people queuing will be in and out in quick succession.

Then off to a tent to share the virus further :(

I actually think that folk weren't flushing the bogs. They were vile, stacked high, but I needed a shit one day so just flushed one, and hey presto, it cleared it. No idea why people wouldn't just flush them.
