Beautiful Days 2019-2021

Oh dear the inevitable announcement has been made that it is off this year. Roll on 2021.

Just seen this announcement, so :( :(

But I have to say that I've been expecting cancellation for a good while now, given that BD's dates are mid-August.
I'm susprised this news didn't come out before this tbh.

We hadn't got round to getting this year's tickets.

So by the time BD 2021 happens, that will be two [Edited : THREE!!] years! since we went (in 2018) -- my nephew got married at the relevant weekend last August ....

The website has been borked all morning people tell me. I'd suggest if anyone wants to go to this and don't have tickets that they move quickly.

Fuck it  , I've just booked for us plus van into Beautiful Days 2021!!! :D  :)

Not cheap, and by no means certain to go ahead ( :( ), but it's not like I've been spending much over lockdown. ....

Also very lately, and for no particularly rational reasons, I've been getting a slight bit more optimistic than all winter about some fests going ahead later this summer ......

I wonder whether just having been vaccinated has turned my head? Side-effects kicking in after all?? ;)

Well. After saying I'd never go back I've brought a ticket for this years.

I really do love the festival but having been to the 10 of the first 11 years I found myself getting a bit bored of it. Its an excellent festival, really well run and gets all the basics right. It does stick to what it knows and what works for it though.

Hopefully having a few years and away and the desire just to be at a festival will be enough for a enjoyable time. Assuming... well, you know.

Hearing very recently about Shambala getting cancelled (and that event's just a week later than BD, plus a lot smaller), is upping my concern-levels big-style about BD being confirmed -- or more likely not! :(

But I can't for the life of me find anything from the BD Facebook, still less from the festival site ...... :hmm:

Why would they?
Surely they would be hanging on to.see if all restrictions are lifted on June 21st before making any decision that they are going ahead?

I'm convinced I saw on the Beautiful Days site (at the time we were booking tickets) that they were going to make another announcement in April ... can't find that any more though

Trouble is the amount of work and money involved before 21st June for an event that may have to be postponed

That's very true, although there's another wayof seeing it, that they've had plenty of time to organise for a good while (17 years? :p ).

The financial commitments and when they make them, are the crucial things though obviously.

Do peeps think that festival prices will rise? Because festivals will become even more popular with less people travelling abroad as that becomes more expensive/ quarantine etc?
Or and will festivals lower their numbers and charge more? Badgers ?

Festivals are really in a bit of nightmare situation. Johnson's stupid June date has left them in a limbo similar to the travel industry. Theoretically they can go ahead in the summer it just seems very unlikely at this stage.

If it were me I would do as Shambala has and others and get rid of the ambiguity by saying not this year. BD were supposed to be making an announcement in April regarding line-up but I wouldn't be surprised if they just announce a postponement. The original excitement after Johnson's road map has worn off and realism must be creeping in.

I would have thought ticket prices will rise because costs will go up appreciably. I imagine they'll also be a shortage of events crews as a lot of people will have left the industry plus the on-going cluster fuck that is Brexit will likely have an affect.

The Beautiful Days set-up seem remarkably optimistic still.

Here's the statement from the BD FaceBook page from today -- they're planning a line-up release on Friday 7th May ....

Very happy to let you know that the line-up for #BD2021 is going to be announced on Friday 07 May!

☀️

A few of the artists who were scheduled to play in 2020 weren’t able to reconfirm for this year but we are VERY excited about those who are signed up to join us in August
We are working hard continuing to plan for #BD2021 to go ahead following Step 4 of the Government’s roadmap which will allow large events to take place without restrictions.
We are planning for a full capacity festival with 90% of tickets already sold and are in regular discussion with all Local Authorities as the situation progresses in the UK to ensure this can be done safely. More will be learnt from the DCMS pilot events taking place soon for the Events Research Programme and other Government reviews.
We can’t wait to be back in Escot Park with you
💚

So, um... Van der graaf generator anyone?

70's prog-tastic

My dad had an album or two.

So did my (older) brother .... I haven't heard Van der Graaf for decades, but I think I remember Peter Hamill (main man, featuring in August) as being really .... intense!

Dave Brock and his Session Musicians appearing too ;) .... expect 14 minute guitar solos, as with one song in Glastonbury 2019!

But plenty of other :) bands and acts, some of them even fairly up-to-date :D

Here's the poster :

Not sure what time Beautiful Days sold out last night or this morning, but fest tickets are definitely flagged as sold out now :(
Happily for us, we and Van sorted ourselves a while ago :)

There'll be ways for the tardy** to be getting tickets though, with the right levels of ingenuity ;) :D

** Badgers ?? Others? Good luck.

I wonder what's different with this festival than the others that have had to cancel primarily through lack of insurance cover? Are the over heads much lower or have they just decided to bet the house which seems unlikely?

I am (atm) too poor and employment is still too erratic to commit :( a mate is bullying me to go and I love the line up but will be last minute (ticket resale depending) if at all :(

You will get hold of a ticket I suspect -- by August, you'll be confident enough to beg/steal/borrow** cash for a ticket, and commit!

**PM me in any emergency, man :) ;)

See you at one or other of the ale tents :D
