Beard grooming

How do you fellas keep your big beards neat?
I can’t figure it out myself and don’t want to pay anyone to do it for me.

I have a friend who has a lovely silky beard. I think he brushes and occasionally oils it (xmas gift). A smooth neat beard that makes you want to touch it. But that would be weird.

Before my beard starts getting big I trim it  because I look silly with a big beard.

When I worked in the Netherlands ooh 35 years ago I was given a battery Philips shaver. I got it back here and it still works  . I use it to do the trimming.

Got a cheap set of electric clippers that does my beard and the boy's head. With a guard on the face to leave some then without to shave neck clean. Occasional top up with a bic type razor for a cleaner shave. usually looks a bit bad when it's just done but fine the next day grown out a touch, so will do it in the evenings.

Oh, by big do you mean letting it grow long like Shippy? My advice not much use for that, sorry.

Once every weeks or so I'll go to Geno's for a skinnyhead cut & beard trim. In between in varies from very trimmed to #streetdrinkerchic with hints of 🎅. I have a beard trimmer which is used occasionally.

Use a trimmer without the guard every so often to take off dead ends and stragglers. Brush it. Use a little Shea butter to condition it.

That looks pretty neat to me. If you want it neater, you’re going to have to go to a hipster barber.

Are you sure you’re not expecting more from your hair type than is physically possible?

I know you said you didn't want to pay anyone but if you've got Turkish barbers near you, it's a very relaxing way to spend half an hour. The high st near me goes through stages of having loads of one type of shop (as waves of immigration occur I guess), so 10 years ago we had about 6 'gelato' shops, then loads of nail bars and for the last year or 2, it's vape shop and Turkish barber central.

I've tried all these and settled on Razor Barber as he gives you really sweet mint tea while you're waiting, always shakes my hand and the only conversation we have is a shouted 3 choice menu: "MORNING BOSS YOU GOOD: BEARDHAIR? BEARD? HAIR?" Anyway, all the barbers have a fixed price - 10 quid for beard + hair (though it's just the one haircut despite any instruction you might give). There's no chat, just the buzz of clippers, the snap of scissors and the TV tuned to some nature channel for some reason. You can have the nose wax too and he always does my eyebrows/ears. Also you get a hot towel face massage and sprayed liberally with a cloud of some kind of hair cologne which the dog goes mad for when I get home

Go on OU, google your nearest Turkish barber and have some you time

The last time I went to a Turkish barber, they set fire to my ears, so that’s a hard pass from me
The first time I went to a Turkish barber he grabbed my neck and shoulders to do a massage/take the crick out. I thought the floor was going to tip open and I’d end up in a pie!
