So, who deserves a medal? Please explain your choices. Feel free to slag any of them off, too. Enjoy!!

I think the private voting will encourage honesty. As your post indicates - who would admit to voting for Dimverdale? Not I. But there is nothing to fear, my poll is private ;)

I'll vote for Inverdale. :p I quite like his understated and slightly clueless appeal. In terms of the rest all the athletics commentators have been great - Cram's very good on the microphone: Boardman and the other guy are abit of a double act on the cycling. Linekar was ok, ditto Jake Humphrey.

yes, because without it being publick you can't hold people to account. for example, how are you going to make whoever was daft enough to vote for lineker answer questions?

Or whoever voted for Inverfuckingdale.

eta Oh, Hollis just admitted to it.

I quite liked Inverdale til tonight's debacle.
He was the dimwit asking the questions the audience wanted asking

I voted for Michael Johnson and 'other'. My other was Steve Cram. I think he's a great athletics commentator.

Cram's not a presenter, though, so I suppose he doesn't count. In that case, I'll just leave it with Michael Johnson.

Lineker's an old hand who has been blagging it a bit.

Michael Johnson and Claire Balding for their professionalism and knowledge of their subject.

But award goes to Colin Jackson for his Usain Bolt commentary "the big man, the big man" does it for me.
He also gets an Alan Partridgish high five from Inverdale for that.

That's ok, but then at the end, his arguments having been demolished, he has to say 'right, so there's really nothing in that at all then'. But he didn't.

tbh tonight's debacle just makes me think that Inverdale's not very bright.

Ian Thorpe has clearly been the best. Concise, eloquent, modest and just a dude of the highest order.

Mark Cavendish has looked like a possum in the headlights, a brain-damaged one at that. The equivalent of getting a prop-forward to commentate on rugby. He actually looked stoned most of the time... which would've been amusing if he actually had been, i just think he's just spectacularly thick.

Agreed, but I was referring to his contributions before tonight.

You are so sore. How much does it hurt?

He's doing a TV interview - he gave Johnson loads of time to reply - imagine John Humphries in the same situation - Johnson would've had 30 seconds before Humphries enlightened as further.

I only saw the tale end of the article, so don't really know how offensive it was - but I did catch Jackson's/Johnson's contributions - so maybe some folk are abit more educated on the topic now.
