BBC 6 Music: Radcliffe and Maconie: shut up for a bit FFS

Jeez. Don't these two ever shut the fuck up? It's BBC Radio6 Music.

Music. Music. FUCKING MUSIC, you twats.

Are they worse than adam and fucking joe? i dont see how thats possible. are they also supposed to be 'funny'?

Their show on R2 was pretty good. I enjoyed their chat... Not as good as mark & lard were, but still enjoyable enough. Is it much different?

Mark & Lard went downhill when they got shunted onto daytime Radio 1.

Neither Mark, nor Lard, have been funny ever since.

I think they are brilliant - but they don't suit 6music I'm afraid. The 8pm - 10pm slot on radio2 suited them perfectly and I listened to it pretty much every night when making my tea, only caught them a couple if time on 6music as I don't often work from home and they don't fit in, yet *ever hopeful*

disagree totally - while daytime mark & lard was a different beast to the evening show, it's the best daytime pop radio show ever imo. they balanced it perfectly.

i don't like macaroni over much, but i enjoyed their radio 2 show - is this much different? less prog rock i guess?

ok, that was a bit hyperbolic, but mainstream radio is never a tempting alternative for me - they play music that you've mostly heard already and/or don't like. i like the adam & joe show when the music is edited out though

has to be said, there's very little to recommend daytime radio on any station atm. r3 isn't bad i guess, but i don't really care for the music that much...

This, imho putting any of them Radcliffe, Lard or Maconie is like putting Professors in a kindergarten.... They're not suited to 6 'music'.

maconie was good on the freak zone, but weatherall was great when he had his irregular show, but i've never heard any interesting music on bbc6 apart from that

In Oxford we have Jack FM. The music selection is good for commercial radio, but the excellent, genius thing about it is that it doesn't have any DJs. its all computer controlled.. music, music, ads, music with no banal chit chat or requests for free content because they cant think of anything...

radio is shit. why listen to someone else talking over shit records? choose your own music!
It's nice to hear something unexpected.
One of my problems with listening to radio apart from the inane chatter from DJ BigIam is the familiarity with the music. If I can sing along with it, almost every word, I don't wanna hear it. I've got it already. Stored, and it always sounds better in my head. I listen to a lot of R3 because I know fuck all about 'classical' music, so it's all new to me. They don't talk all over the beginnings and ends and very rarely attempt 'jokes'.

I listen to Maconie's Freakzone and Freakier on Friday night. He's an enthusiast and I like that. I've heard some trails for Maconie & Radcliffe and I know it really ain't up my street. I rarely listen in real time, usually iPlayer while I'm doing stuff on the computer which often involves reading, I can't have shouty banter getting in the way.

Radio 3 World Music, Late Junction. On 6 Gideon Coe's OK with me, but even he seems to drivel on a bit.

Is it me or is 6 Music heading the way of all other stations that started off really well. More chat and "funniness" rather than just playing moooosic?

Yep. It's turned into Radio One. There's phone-ins, celebrity banter, Apple endorsements, 'hilarious' inter DJ banter, and endless, endless inane babble.

What's frustrating is that inbetween the desperate exhortations for people to 'Tweet in their thoughts,' product plugs and mindless babble, some great songs get played - but in the last few months the signal to noise ratio has gone seriously awry. I want to hear music, not Planet of the fucking Apps and Laverne's endless reading of pointless Tweets.

The problem is that the inane silly, imho funny banter and various plugs and babbling are part of his show. As such it make me think it just doesn't work on a channel where that's not wanted.... The only outcomes are they change their whole format and routine or that you accept their show the way they've always done it.... As I said earlier I think thewir show is rather incongruous on 6.

6 seems to go in phases. it had it goin on there for a while - cerys, gideon, huey etc...

now it seems to have retreated to the george lamb days with the likes of the deeply deeply unfunny adam n joe and this new pair. has there been a change in controller or somethin? surprised they'd allow themselves to go backwards just after massively boosting their listening numbers.
