Basic Video Editing Software

UnderOpenSky

baseline neural therapy
I'd like to make a few short films for my girlfriend to help her promote her business and an up coming crowd funding project. Simple stuff to give an idea of what she does and will just be filmed on phones.

I wondering the easiest bit of software to get our heads round. Ideally free of something I can find on a torrent site. I'd like to be able to cut out clips to join them together, add photos for the things we aren't filming and put voice and possibly music over the top. Hopefully pretty basic stuff. I've got a reasonable desktop to do it all on.

If anyone make any decent suggestions it would be much appreciated. :)

Will ask my son, I am sure he uses some which are free.

Also - however - the quickest way to identify an amateur is a shaky camera so I would recommend you find a way of mounting your phone to something solid so the only things moving in the video are subjects rather than the wavering hand of the film maker.

I've got a PC, so rules out the Apple option I'm afraid. Didn't even know VLC could do that! Will have a look at lightworks and VLC then.

Will certainly considered camera shake, although a bit is acceptable as she grows organic vegetables on a small scale, so I'm aiming for charming amateur rather then worrying about anything to slick.

If you're using iPhones you can put clips together and edit on the phone itself with iMovie - you don't need a Mac. It's free iirc.

Helpfully Microsoft discontinued Windows Movie Maker in January and have not launched the replacement yet  I see there is an open source editor called Avidemux - Avidemux - Main Page - not used it though.

No iPhones and I'd much rather use a mouse, file manager and multiple monitors then a phone screen.

I actually used the Windows software many years ago for a uni project. Had totally forgotten about it. Typical of MS to discontinue something useful!

If you've still got it on your machine it should still work. It's just not around for download any more, at least not from Microsoft.

I'm not really surprised. I did look at OSS video software a few years ago and it was all terrible; it wasn't one of those areas that I saw getting better.

Too complicated to do well for free ime.
Windows movie maker or imovie are both pretty decent but it's been many years since I looked for alternatives

Than

I swear you do it to wind me up :hmm::)

So we got round to this. Nothing complex, but put together photos and short clips and trimmed some of the content and added voice overs.

My other half thinks I'm dead clever, but it was actually ludicrously simple. Used VideoPad Video Editor. Massively helped that she had done all the hard work of picking the content and running order so I just had to slip it together.

Thanks everyone. :)

It's hugely satisfying isn't it, despite how simple it is.

Can you use different formats and sizes and is adding text and sound easy enough for a novice?

Also, can anyone suggest a good, very easy to use video editing app for Android? I want to make a short film from GoPro clips and stills and video recorded on the phone.

Ta :)

Different formats and size yes. Didn't put text on to video so can't say, but feature is there, used publisher and save as JPEG to do some slides with info.

My two 2c as a video editor

Final cut x is very good for short movie stuff but it's about 600 yo yos

I first used light works back in college but I'd avoid it it's interface was designed for old fashioned film editors making the transition to digital. It's a little clunky

I use avid 90% of the time and it can be used for anything from cutting match of the day to Jurassic world. I'd be curious to see what you make of the new freeware version

Premiere is my go to home system these days as the adobe cloud packages it with AE and photoshop and a bunch of other stuff for £32 month. AE is very good at adding or removing camera shake FYI.

Whats the latest on free easy to use software?

I've been using lightworks and although it took some time to get used to i kinda got the hang of it. Only my laptop doesn't seem to process well enough for it. I put it on my desktop, no lag issues but it has this weird glitch that meant it "remembered" mistakes i made with things so for example if audio went out of sync i couldn't get it back in sync and even deleting all the files on my PC, reloading them from my phone and renaming them it somehow kept the error. Don't ask, i don't know

Tried VSDC... too complicated

So i downloaded cyber link powerdirector and i used to use a cracked version of this and it's so easy to use, laptop copes with it and have made a great video.. But aaah!!! Watermark and only a 30 day trial.

All i want to do is edit some models rail train clips together
