"Guam, I know where that is" :D

I would love it if a tiny country like Guam or whatever somehow managed to produce a truly world class athlete. In fact, it must have happened, surely, and in my ignorant Western-centric nammer I've just negelected it.

Kim Collins of St. Kitts & Nevis? Any advances on Kim?*

*easy, you know what I mean... :hmm:

The gold medallist in the men's 400m is from Grenada (pop 105,000). That's a tiny country by any standards.

First Saudi woman trackthlete!

Quite a printer-fest there. And a notably phallic mantelpiece.
The printers are f&£)ing ridiculous. I've got another one upstairs, too.

I got an AirPlay printer when I bought my iPad. So I could print without sending myself emails. Artichoke started printing from it, but felt guilty. Then I got an iMac, which came with an offer of an identical printer for £5. So I got it, intending to sell it on (couldn't really lose on eBay), only for Artichoke to ask if she could buy it off me so she didn't have to use "mine."

A little disappointing, certainly. Some suggestion that, because he was so far over the board, he was just a bit too pumped by the occasion or whatever and so overcooked it.

So waht was his excuse the second time? Surely hitting the board is a fundamental of long jumping, if he hasnt learnt that yet why is he there?

Even 'full time' long jumpers can get their run up wrong. He's a young chap trying to learn and master 10 disciplines. Hopefully he'll learn from this :)

What a great morning. There are still about 78,000 people in the stadium waiting to watch decathlon shot putting

Had a bit of a mare in the long jump and either aggrivated an existing injury or sustained a new one

:(

Just found this:

Daniel Awde was forced to withdraw from the decathlon with a knee injury after the second event, the long jump.

Awde had set a personal best of 10.71s in the 100m to lie seventh overall, but then committed two fouls in the long jump and already looked to be struggling before managing 6.83m with his final attempt.

"I've had a flare up of patella tendinitis and if I continued it would probably rupture," Awde said. "It's been a real rollercoaster ride. We try to find solutions to it. It works for about a week, find another solution and that works for about a week.

"If you spoke to me at the start of the year I wouldn't have expected to be here in the first place, it's been a real bane of my life for the last two years.

"I'm in the best shape of my life. I was so ready for this to put on a good show, entertain the crowd. I was ready but my knee wasn't. Without being too arrogant, if the pain is enough to make me stop and pull out of my home Olympics, then it's too painful."
