Arsenal vs. Villarreal FC wednesday? Anyone going? Strike solidarity

Hey all,

Thought I'd post in here because on the libcom forums we had a request from a Spanish CNT trade union member related to the Arsenal-Villareal game tomorrow.

Basically hundreds of Mercadona supermarket workers have been on indefinite strike in Barcelona for a month now (for a number of reasons, including the re-hiring of 3 sacked union organisers). Here's the message we got:
One thing: the owner of Mercadona is the president of the Villareal FC, which is going to play against the Arsenal this wednesday.

It would be a goal if in the stadium appears placards with texts like this: "Mercadona acosa" or "Victory for the strikers at Mercadona"

If someone is going to the football...

And please send photos if you are going to do something

Salud!
So I thought I'd post here just in case anyone was going!

This call appeared on this thread here, which also has more background info on the strike. Info on the strike in Spanish available here: http://barcelona.cnt.es/ and here: http://www.cnt.es/mercacoso/

Cheers,
John

Big chain, Mercadona, there's at least one here. I doubt it's unionised. But any more information would be appreciated.
I don't think there is one here - the CNT don't know of one and their UK section would like to know - if you do please lemme know and I'll tell them.

In Spain it's probably the biggest supermarket chain, got 54,000 employees. What kind of info you after Donna? You can ask Manu on that thread I link to.

My cousin works in a Mercadona in Motril. They seem to work them really hard there going off what I've see with him.

I prefer Supersol (as the local one is a stones throw away from my apartment over in Spain) and Alcampo (because they're huge and one of the only places I ever find Diet Puleva Chocolate - the finest chocolatemilk known to man!).

I have nothing else to add sorry.

well done for this thread icepick - I ain't going but I'm gonna try to spread news of this
Cool - just a pic of someone in the stadium holding a handmade placard for a second would be cool, to send to the strikers would be very appreciated.

Arsenal 1 - Villareal 1
Am Chilean!!

Sorry ;)

I had a strange dream last night. It was telling me to bet £50 on Arsenal at 7/5 against. Should I trust it? Funny thing I hadn't even checked the odds, but walking past Hills they had 4/7. So maybe someone will do 5/7

I've spread the word around.....

to be fair i've jsut seen the 'manifestacion' going down Passeig de Gracia, 20 people does not have that great an impact. also the tourists i overheard were confused that they were referring to terrorism and people being sacked on the same banner.

I think the "highbury park" reference might be mroe to do with the game than the Mercadona strikers. There isn't as much for Mercadona as there was for the SEAT workers.

What's wrong with re-hiring sacked union organisers?
