Are you looking forward to the Opening Ceremony

The Chinese havent revealed the costs of their Olympics, not the building of the Birdsnest Stadium or this opening ceremony.
Unlimited budget!

We are going to be penny pinching because all our contractors will have stiffed us out of billions of pounds by then!
We'll have Babs Windsor and her Pearly Kings and Queens doing the Lambeth Walk.

:D I can see it now!

London can never live up to this.

I think with things like this, like any follow-up to The Dark Knight, when your predecessor succeeds so clearly in one way it's simply foolish to try and match it on those terms, so you have to try something different and excel at that. So 2012 may not be as spectacular as this, but hopefully if we put some thought into it, rather than just doing the usual prancing twats and a bit of pyrotechnics, we can do something worthy too.

Hopefully...

hmm, while puppets are normally quite cool, can't help feeling they're struggling to compete with magic flying Olymipc rings and fireworks brighter than the sun...

I wish I had your optimism Cam!

*remembers the Millenium 'Celebrations' and the Dome 'Exhibition'!*

We'll have politicians, commentators and callers to radio stations bitching about costs and what the point of it all is.

They will give the Opening Ceremony production to dull pedestrian media types like Lloyd Webber or more likely to a 'forward thinking' multimedia outfit who think having a few lazers and torches will be enough to 'dazzle' folk.

Like I said, hopefully... but yeah, I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it happens like you suggest.

it looks great, and i'm sure it's spectacular if you are in the stadium and that - but it's a bit dull to watch on the telly - i'm off out

I don't want to sound... spoilt, but is anyone else starting to feel "*sigh* oh look, more fireworks..."

Putting them in so many times is starting to undermine their impact a bit.

Anyone think the ancient and futuristic stuff isnt marrying together as smoothly as it might have?

And agreed about the over use of fireworks.

"Right, we've got a bloke and a little girl playing the piano? Ok, that's nice, but how about surrounding them with a spectacular light display?"

:D
