Are we all basically the same?

Soul, what is a soul? What about twins are they different from the rest of us because they are the same as each other? Do they have one soul between them?

One of my best friends is one half of a pair of identical twins who are quite clearly the opposite of each other, and have avoided all contact with each other for years. They most certainly do not share souls.

on a fundamental level, lets say where our deepest emotions and feelings come from, are we very, very similar?

Most probably at birth in its essence. Form that moment on everything gets influenced, hence develops individually. Some would argue however that a baby already gets influenced in the womb.

if you were stuck with one of these evil folk, at the end of the world, maybe, given some time, you would find that you had a lot in common?

Beyond common particularites of the human species, I doubt this would be the case.

salaam.

babies are born with a personality.. we dont come out robots.

why is it always men that think you are BORN, when you are born?

Where on earth do you detect that in my post?
You are the one arguing that "everyone is the same" no? Hence for you everyone is basically a clone of everyone - if that starts at birth or before - and lives on as such a copy.

salaam.

I think there are lots of differences, ranging from size to differences in the probable neurological development.

Do people really still believe in souls? Doesn't the idea of your sense of self created by the brain, surviving your death strike seem a little implausible?

yes it does. but maybe WE are not just the sense of self.

i think having diverse personalities is not evidence that we are fundamentally different.

trees grow differently according to their situation, but the same species grows in a similar way.

I've never seen anything, or met anyone that was "the same".

There's always going to be some small difference in something.

Pretty much everything is different, it seems.

What do you think we are other than the sum of our physical parts and the idea of ourselves created by our brains?

Also, what is it that you regard as the fundamentals? Obviously there are certain things that all or almost all humans share, but it seems that there are plenty of important differences too.

Did people ever stop believing in souls? I've seen friends 'lose' their sense of self and not die. Well only in a poetic sense of death...
