Are there any decent/interesting/quirky pubs in and around Canary Wharf?

Yeah I know most of the area is post yuppie hell, but I'm meeting someone there tomorrow and it would be handy to locate to a decent bar nearby.

I suspect this is a bit of a long shot, so failing that, is there anything a short DLR ride away?

Or should I just get the hell out of the area as quickly as possible? Maybe Greenwich?

The Grapes is an amazing aulde wooden interior pub, good vibe in there too, has locals
The spoons is an impressive one and closer...a building with history, not harbour master, but some kind of shipping tax office or such IIRC. Start at spoon and on to the grapes

eta didnt know that about ian mckellan! interesting!

the spoons...its next to the london docklands museum

the inside is nice too, no wetherspoons carpet

For an actual bar at Canary wharf itself, the Pergola at Crossrail is decent, and you enter it via the roof garden - decent views and it mostly seems to be families and dates rather than groups of finance wankers. We generally go there for Sunday roasts.

The Star of the East is decent, but it's Poplar not Canary Wharf - then again nether are most of the places mentioned, so I don't know how specific you want to be. Like, the Grapes is lovely (proper pub, and friendly), but definitely not Canary Wharf, and it's tiny so can quickly end up too full to get in to.

The Spoons is fine, sorta - can be a bit dirty, IME, like leaving tables and the floor full of leftover food and spilt drinks for an hour. But it is a lot cheaper than the places along the same section, like the "German" beer garden etc, which is fairly friendly.

The Spoons is OK
N used to work at Pergola (in the kitchen), not the one on the roof of the Crossrail station at Canary Wharf, a different branch.

However - we had an urban outing to Museum of London Docklands last year and went for a drink afterwards, which took place about 15 minutes walk away from Canary Wharf at The Star of the East in Poplar, and we had a really good time.
They do great food, and a bloody lovely Sunday Roast including a great veggie version, me and N went back there for my birthday to have the roast but their usual menu is good too and about the same price as other London pubs in similar locations.

Really nice place to head to for drinks and food. Oh and if the weather is good, they have a nice yard where you can sit outside.

There are a few places on the Isle of Dogs which are alright if you can get away from Canary Wharf itself.
The George across the road from Crossharbour DLR,
The Space Bar at The Space theatre.
My local, The Ship, and The Ferry House at the south of the island - Island Gardens DLR.

Of those The Space Bar would probably be my choice though awkwardly it’s the furthest from DLR etc.

Actually at the Wharf, there’s Mercato - food court type thing which I think has a place doing beer.
