Amanda Knox Case and Coverage

Sorry ... failed to recognise the strictly neutral, researcher-style phraseology in the original post ...

No problem. It was an easy mistake to make, in fairness.

I think it's symbolically interesting that Lumumba's grandson is involved. I think it's a deeply ironic comment on the changes wrought by the transition from anti-colonialism to post-colonialism.

I can't see anything wrong with the way it's reported in the first link - it's factual, simply repeating what the prosecutor said in court.

The second link doesn't work.

I agree that some of the coverage has been salacious, but the examples in your links are not good ones.

the first link describes the murder as a 'sex killing' - that's shit, lazy journalism, as is 'drug-induced sex game'

Indeed.

There are two very interesting questions here: one involves the press's treatment of the case, and the other involves the case itself.

I know what I think of the first, but not the second. Like you, I don't understand why, since a man has already been convicted, Amanda Knox and her bloke are on trial. I suspect the answer has something to do with the media coverage.

iirc under italian law if a group of suspects are charged with the same crime they can choose to be tried separately. the guy who had already been convicted had his trial fast tracked- possibly by choice?

What are the press doing? Theyre doing what they always do.Quoting certain people making up the rest and selling newspapers. If this woman was joan of arc there wouldnt be a story !

Good. Hope they both rot. :)

Why are you so sure she's guilty?

I can't see what the evidence is, apart from her character--which has been unjustly assassinated. And what's the motive?

Two people with previously unblemished characters don't suddenly decide to commit a "sex murder" for thrills.

I really think this was pure misogyny.

Yea whatever happened to innocent until proved guilty?!

Oh, right...
