Alan Partridge........

We're all different. Every time I watch Alpha Papa I love it
Maybe coming to it completely dry, not knowing the character, and expecting a straight forward three act comedy, might lead a viewer to not enjoying it so much, but for me it feels so unrelentingly Partridge from first moment to last, that it's an always-two-thumbs comfort watch.

YOUR FOG LAMPS ARE ON! THERE'S NO FOG! THERE'S NO FOG! NO FOG!

I rewatched it and I’ve changed my view on it. I think it’s quite good now. Not sure why I didn’t like it as much before

The fog lamps scene is genius and a very easy accidental Partridge for the motorist Alan fan to slip into

Stratagem is now streaming / torrented, but best news is theres two more series of From The Oasthouse coming, first due in autumn 2023. I love the Oasthouse, my favourite overall Partridge veichle

I saw Strategem on Prime (I think.) i didn't really like it TBH. I don't think he works live. You only get the contrived persona and none of the magical incidental stuff where he has to interact with other characters or describe daily incidents.

Agreed Oasthouse is great though.

yeah im not expecting much from strategem, but im going to give it a spin tonight anyhow -

Would be interested to read your take on it.
still just waiting for the torrent but in the meantime...above all i love alan as a radio dj - one man alone with a microphone. i wish they'd do a partridge radio 2 takeover on occasion.
alan around other people is often too cringey for me - he shoudnt be allowed out! that dynamic of a massive ego, incapable of interacting socially properly, that makes radio such a great platform for him
whats great about oasthouse is he's very much alone...alone is his massive house....theres something perfect about that, but above all it really lets him indulge in his own character

alan on a massive stage as in doing strategem isnt too bad as at least he's not really interacting with people too much, but i can imagine the jokes are going to have to be a lot broader to get laughs in a room the size of greenwich arena.
im looking forward to it now :)

I’ve not seen him live in person, but the Alan live videos I’ve watched before - not seen the current offering - haven’t really worked for me. Suspect the nuances don’t come across as well as they do on the small screen.

I also didn’t particularly rate the film despite having rewatched as I think the first time I saw it I was in a bad mood.

Funnily enough the only time I ever watch the type of TV that Alan inhabits is when I’m watching Alan.

I remember thinking of the potential intrigue of a live murder on This Morning when the studio was at the Albert Dock in Liverpool.
cue Richard Madely in an edit suite watching background footage obsessively over and over again, convinced he’s seen something
