Alan Green gold medal for fuckwittery

badlands

the mercy seat
So, he's on the radio this morning and they ask him about Bolt. He sighs and starts a monologue about comparisons with Ben Johnson. Ends with "and lets hope this is not the same scenario" He backs it up by saying its just a thought that passed his mind at the time.
What?
You didnt think like everyone else, fuck me that was unbelievable, I have NEVER seen anything like that on an athletics track.
No,
your first thought was he's on drugs.
You really are a sad, sad man.
Fuck off to Talksport where you belong.

Didn't hear this but i know his MO very well. I find him disgraceful , it's the shock-jock/'talking point' thing but it's implied. Does it all season long with the football.

I dislike Alan Green, he thinks he *is* football, bigger than fergie etc, believed his own hype of a few years back. But there is a case to be made that he has seen this sort of performance before, and we all know where. That said, unless he has some evidence or something more than a suspicion he should shut up and let the testers do their thing instead of hinting at naughtiness.

He's been tested three times already at these games.

Evidence or stfu basically

The Jamaican 100m men were tested more than average according to a report on 5live a couple of days ago. Their coach was interviewed complaining about the frequency of tests because it was interrupting their preparations

Its not just him sadly, I encountered that opinion on several US sports news columns.

Read like soour grapes to me, subtext You'd have to be doped to beat us that badly .

Except of course its far more likely that its the US athletes who are doped to fuck.

It's curious how much better the rest of the world does in athletics - in relation to the USA - when the drug testing becomes more effective.

Especially once we've had a few revelations about past cheats - Pettigrew, Jones, Flo-Jo - making a few people a bit more careful about just how blatantly they wish to cheat

Same thing on the BBC 606 site - people disputing that he could have been so fast and far ahead without 'help'.

Apart from the fact he's been tested numerous times people forget that it can happen - Michael Johnson used to be far, far ahead of others in his races - he is an exceptional athlete and there is also an interesting article in the Observer today about how Jamaica has been trying to encourage their athletes with a 30 year plan

Whatever Jamaica are doing it's paying off. It used to be Merlene Ottey and a couple of others, now they seem to have plenty of athletes in the latter stages of all the shorter distances

You often get an instinct about who's on drugs. Exaggerated musculature is usually the big give-away.

But Bolt is not muscled. He's a great, tall athlete who, despite his long legs, has good leg speed. Once he gets going, he's almost doing one stride to other athletes' two. That's what makes him phenomenal, not his power.

I was speaking to a Jamaican friend of mine who knows Bolt from when he was a young boy. He says he's an ordinary humble guy from up country. I've seen his coach being interviewed and his coach is a very level, serious man.

Don't listen to the muck-rakers. I think Bolt is clean.

Now, Merlene Ottey... That's different...

Oh Bolt is totally clean, imo.

I agree you get a subcon feel (instinct) for when something isn't right; it can be inappropriate muscle development (not just exaggeration but where it shouldn't be), that hard facial jawline (esp but not only evidenced in women) and also in the reaction to victory - it's not quite a natural reaction to something honestly earned.

None of that helps the dope tester obviously, but in real time the public need to have confidence the druggies aren't too far ahead of the game and, at least for this Olympics, I'm happier to believe - and watch.

I'm no fan of Alan Green but I think he does have a point. I thought Bolt's running was fantastic but given the history of the event you can't blame Alan Greene from wondering if he's doing it clean. The following have all run under 9.8 seconds

Usain Bolt 9.69
Asafa Powell 9.74
Tyson Gay 9.77
Justin Gatlin 9.77
Maurice Greene 9.79
Ben Johnson 9.79

Johnson and Gatlin have been caught doping. Greene has never tested positive but just recently he admitted buying 'stuff' for other members of his training team (nytimes). The 100 meters has serious credibility issues.

But instead of a negative, why not talk about how often he's been tested, and how improved is the testing regime, and how many days prior to the event the drug needs to be injected?

Istead of all that he makes his usual MO, an off-the-cuff, entirely unsubstantiated inference that undermines years and years of training by the athlete and improvement by the relevant authorities in testing ?

I'm sorry but the man is a cunt, and I don't like to use that word too often.

He knows nowt about running as well if he can't see the technical differences which make Bolt special

But they're all at it.

You don't get to compete at that level otherwise, and the financial rewards for competing at medal level - and especially winning - are too great an incentive.

The backstreet labs will always be a step ahead of the testers - and strategies and techniques for avoiding detection are becoming an art form.

It's a joke!

Woof

Did they ever prove anything against Flo Jo? I understood that she never failed a test.
