I am going to be spending a couple of days in Lulworth Cove from tomorrow. Weather looks OK, no rain forecast and about 20 degrees. If I was going to Newquay in such weather I would take a fleece, as I know it can be breezy out on the headland, but is it likely to be breezy at Lulworth? I haven't been there in about 25 years.

Forecast is pretty mild but it'll get chilly at night. In the Cove itself it's really sheltered, but you will get a cool sea breeze in the pm.

i would, right in the cove itself i'm not sure about because its so sheltered, but on the top of the cliff the wind can be a limiting factor on the Tank and Artillery firing range. to the point where it can be a pain in the arse sometimes...

theres an excellent, very friendly, with very good food, pub called the Smugglers Arms in Osmington Mills (about 7km west of Lulworth on the costal path), and another, equally excellent - the Sailors Return - in Chaldon Herring, which is to the north west, about 4km. lots of my family lived there for several hundred years and a great deal of inbreeding, sadly they then had a brainfart and moved to the grimy shitholes of west London, for which i've not forgiven them.

Good pub suggestions, seconded

I've packed one because the weather is supposed to be changeable and we will be walking over the cliff to Durdle Door.

I checked out the Smugglers Arms but it's a fair walk and I don't know if we will fit it in. We are staying in a pub anyhow!

I also have lots of ancestors from that way, Weymouth/Portland mainly, until my great grandparents upped sticks and moved to Derbyshire.

They coped with my kids, they'll cope with you!

Honestly, it's a really relaxed place - lots of holiday makers as well as the locals. Tis a long walk from Lulworth though...

E2A: Oops, just re-read it! Yeah, it's a long way, it would be a long drag and time consuming - dunno if you're looking to go to Corfe, but we had a date night there and the pubs were great, very friendly and not remotely touristy.

Have fun.

You've picked the busiest stretch of coast to walk. Had 40-50 m.p.h. winds on the ridge path west when we were there a month ago but it should be a lot easier to walk now. The 30 & X54 buses go to Osmington if you want to do the walk from Osmington Mills one-way.
